Lune's Dreamer Mobile

There are a zillion different kinds of mobiles out there in the world but I have yet to ever seen one like this beautiful creation by Jill from Lune Vintage. Jill definitely has a knack for unique craft ideas like this Crochet Planter. Along with crafting, she owns her own store and loves to thrift. I'll definitely keep her Tips to Finding Beauty in a thrift store post in mind next time I go thrifting. Needless to say, we were so excited when she said she would guest post for us here on Prudent Baby.

DIY Super Sweet No-Sew Ribbon Mobile

I spied this ribbon mobile over at super-cute site Hudson&Co., and was struck by it's beauty and simplicity. This is a no-sew project with results that are just so sweet. I asked the creator, Erin of Hudson&Co. to share the tute with us, and she agreed. I love it and I hope you do too.

Here's Erin to give us the scoop: I previously posted a roundup of Hudson's mobiles, the final being this ribbon mobile that I made for him, and I promised a DIY so that you could make one too.  My understanding of the value of mobiles is that they help babies develop motor skills as well as their sight. As Hudson is now three and a half months old, it was time to move on from the blue seahorse mobile and the blue felted mobile, to a mobile with brighter colours. I wanted it to be stimulating, but not overly so. Fabric Silhouette Garlands

Here is another take on the ever popular garland as decor for a party or a bedroom. This is super simple - you don't even need to know how to sew. Of course ours are elephant themed but you can make any shape you want, and the whole project comes in under an hour.

Recycle Baby Shower Cards: 4 Ways

Our friend Robyn came to Prudent Baby with a great crafty question...

"Do you know of any good projects that use all the cards we got for Zane at his baby showers?"

So in addition to our recent DIY for origami boxes, we pulled together a few more ideas.

If you are a sentimental nerd AND a stationary geek (like me) you might not want to actually cut your cards. Simply display them on a ribbon or bakers twine with tiny clothes pins. These are from Paper Source, but I recently saw them at Michael's, in the wood isle.

If you can bear to take to your cards with scissors (or have a copier, he he), here are three more...

Take this tip from Amesh and glue your cards to wood (or cardboard) blocks. You can also mix it up and add some baby photos and pretty decorative papers. Mod Podge would also be excellent for this but beware of using mod Podge with the (typically) water-soluble ink in home printers, it will run.


Make a mobile. Punch your art out of the cards using a Large Craft Punch. Glue circles of decorative paper to the back side with ribbon sandwiched in-between. Tie the ribbons to an embroidery hoop covered in decorative paper.


Or use the circle punched cards sandwiched with ribbon and make an adorable garland.

Handmade Hanukkah Day 6: Embroidery Hoop Mobile

Aquarium- Nursery Inspiration

My brother and his beautiful little family were here visiting this weekend. In addition to eating, crafting and playing with babies, we made a trip to the Dallas World Aquarium. It was so much fun. Babies love to stare at fish. That is probably why there are so many sea-life inspired nurseries. yikes, right? But some of the gorgeous tanks got me thinking about sea-life inspired nurseries done right. In my research I found SOOOO many cute items. What would you add to the perfect sea-life nursery? And better yet, what would you make?

DIY Bat-Mobile

My crafty sister-in-law came by the house last week with a super-cool bat mobile that she had made from a Paper Source Kit. (they no longer have it on the site, maybe in stores? Maybe on sale?) Alas, the bat-mobile was for her bat-loving mom, not me, but what a cool idea! So here is my version of a bat mobile.
