Pony Silhouette Hoodie

Rebekah from A Bit of Sunshine is here to share this ADORABLE Pony Silhouette Hoodie Tutorial with us! And since I predict that horses are the next hot animal trend (watch out foxes!) I'm especially excited. So grab your plain boring hoodie with zero appliqued ponies and prepare to make it fabulous.

Take it away Rebekah!
I have always loved horses, when I was a little girl I begged my parents for one. I was convinced our backyard was plenty big AND it was fenced so WHY couldn't I have one...

They decorated my room in horses for Christmas, I was only mildly disappointed that I didn't get the real thing..ha ha. I think most girls at some point fall in love with ponies.

Josie had two white hoodies the same size and so I decided to give one of them a little makeover this week. She needed a horsey sweatshirt with ruffles, what can I say ruffles and ponies you really can't go wrong?

For this project I used two coordinating pieces of fabric I believe they are both Heather Bailey but not entirely sure about the green polka dot. I downloaded an image of a horse head that I simply found through googling "horse head" - seriously I googled that. But you don't have to, here is the template. After printing it out on card stock and cutting out the silhouette I got out my trusty wonder under and followed the instructions to make two separate iron on designs. The oval and the horse. I then ironed them both on starting with the oval. This stuff is seriously so cool I could play with wonder under all day! I added the horse head right on top of the oval and then used my sewing machine to stitch around the outside of each shape to reinforce it. Pretty much took me all of like twenty minutes. I had an extra long piece of selvage edge of the pony fabric so I made a tube and gathered it all with a running stitch, pinned it to the hood and sewed it down twice to be sure it was on really well.

she looks pretty darn cute in it don't you think!

We do think, Rebekah! Thanks so much for sharing! Ladies, please leave Rebekah a nice comment or tell us your "Animal Trend Prediction" and you could win a Sublime Stitching Camp Out Embroidery Pattern. And don't be mad owl & squirrel lovers, we still love them too.

Don't forget to visit A Bit of Sunshine!

animal trend...well, i sure hope it's grizzly bears. seriously, grizzlies get slighted, big time. sure, cuddly wittle teddy bears get all the action, but grizzies? yeah, it should be their time to shine. wouldn't want all those teeth and claws to go to waste.

I'm still supporting monkeys which was like soooo 3 years ago. Would it be too girly to do something like this for my son? But with manly fabric? And a monkey?

I think a mustache would work for something more manly and there are tons of mustache illustrations online. Or an old timey bicycle. Cute!

This is adorable! I have a love/hate relationship with horses. We had horses growing up and it seemed my Mom preferred spending her time with them rather than her six kids... :)

This is perfect! I wanted to get iron ons cut out like an Olive (for my daughter Olivia), a Ruby Ring (for her cousin Ruby), and a Horse (for her cousin Ryder). It will be for their 1st bday party (all born within 4 weeks of each other). I was going to order custom iron ons off of etsy but now i can do it myself :-) Thanks!!

Um, that is RIDICULOUSLY adorable. I pretty much want to go by a hoodie for my daughter right now and make it. Especially since her b-day party is SATURDAY and it's a cowgirl theme! (except that here in florida it's probably not going to get below 75 that day.. so I may convert it into a tshirt dress with leggings or something :) Thanks for the great ideas!
