Amy Butler's 5 Tips for Fitting Crafting into a Busy Schedule & A FABRIC GIVEAWAY!

Jaime and I have been day-dreaming about Amy Butler's Rayon and Corduroy ever since we caressed it at Quilt Market so we are delighted to have her here today to share a peek with you and give some away to a lucky Prudent Baby reader!

Wonder how The Great A.B. gets it all done? Read on as Amy, herself, shares her own 5 tips for fitting crafting and being creative into a busy schedule

Take it away Amy!...

Thank you so much to the ladies of Prudent Baby for letting me stop by to chat with you all today! I have some sweet images of my new fabric substrates and some tips on fitting crafting and creative time into a busy schedule that I would love to share with you all.

Let's get started with some inspirational images from my latest fashion fabrics. My Soul Blossoms Rayon and Corduroy are in stores now and the Voile and Organics are just around the corner! Have a look at these juicy shots and be sure to stop by your favorite quilt shop or online fabric store to get some of your own.

Fitting crafting and creative time into your already busy schedule can seem like an overwhelming task but with a few of my tips below you will be crafting in no time!
1 – Set aside a block of time every day to your creative pursuit. It won’t happen unless you carve the time out of your busy schedule.
2 – A new project can be overwhelming if you only look at the outcome you want to reach; break your project down and get started working a little bit each day – even if it’s only 10 minutes – the project becomes more manageable.
3 – Learning new skills and techniques is a great way to keep yourself going and you might find easier ways to accomplish your project.
4 – If it stops being fun, do something else, even if it's for a short respite.
5 – With your passion and creativity, you can make anything happen. It's all about loving what you do!

Bonus surprise time! To get you started on your crafting adventure we have put together an exciting giveaway. Leave a comment below to be entered to win some of my new fabric and a selection of sewing patterns! Giveaway closes at midnight, July 27th.

For extra entries:
Follow Prudent Baby on Facebook & Twitter. Share on Stumble Upon. Leave a comment for each! Come back and enter every day.

Thank you so much to the lovely ladies here at Prudent Baby for having me join them today. I always love stopping by for a new dose of inspiration. Be sure to stop by the Chronicle Books blog tomorrow, July 21st to see some exciting news about my Corduroy fabrics and a free pattern for you!

I've got to say your best tip was about when it stops being fun, stop and move to something else. It really brings the frustration levels down and as us mommies know, those can easily be thrown off! Creating and crafting keep me happy and sane. My inspiration is usually my kids. Cheers!

I love this post. I often find it hard to sit and craft with two little ones because I want to have the finished product to gaze at asap. I don't want to be interrupted, and well, with a 2 and 5 year old- that's unheard of. Another road block is space!!!! I lack it:( I like to sew in front of a window. This presents a problem. I'm working towArd solving it:) I'm moving our "storage" room outside- to a storage building across town. Soon I will have a sewing room! Outside the house_ but hey, it'll work for now. And the kids will play outside more!!

I have learned to set aside time for me to enjoy my hobby, but the best thing I ever did was tell my husband that the block of time can't be encroached upon! He would always find something for me to do because he considered it free time. It is precious time to me and once he understood that he has backed off!Share your schedule with others! lol

I'm so glad to have an even greater selection of Amy Butler fabrics now. I've begun sewing for myself and don't want a closet full of quilting cotton, so I'm loving the new substrates.

PS Since I work fulltime, I am a master at carving out that dedicated time to sew. It was much harder when I had a baby/toddler than now, but I sure miss those days!

Those words of advice are ringing true to me. Until I started "just doing" and slow and little steps, I only really dreamed about crafting. Read lots, saw lots of wonderful creations that other people made so well. It wasn't until I heeded that advice and just started for myself, all the listening and learning had a chance to penetrate and become something I did with my own heart and hands...and it's all lovely when it comes from a place of truth. I believe it was intended to be so.

I just started making a PB DIY swaddle blanket today and although I am not an expert with binding yet, I believe that after this project I won't mess up any nice fabric that comes my way. I'm excited to conquer my sewing insecurities by reading tutorials on PB and adventure with beautiful Amy Butler fabric!

Great tips! I'm getting my kids used to my needing some crafty time while they're young (3 and 6 months). My daughter understands that this is time for her to do something fun for herself, too. :) Can't wait till she's old enough to start sewing herself!

And thanks for the giveaway. :)

I found your blog in my search to see if anyone had posted regarding Amy's copy of a pattern from the book Fancy Designs From The 1920's. I find it highly ironic that the reason you post came up is that you say her fabrics are so original and no one can copy them. Hard morning for me. This must be how sports fans feel when they find out players are doping. I feel lied to and have lost my respect for both Amy Butler and the company who puts out her work.

It was an EXACT copy- only the colors were changed. Con Artist.
