GIVEAWAY: Sewing with Oilcloth

Jaime and I love to work with oilcloth/laminated cotton and we are thrilled to see more and more beautiful patterns popping up from all the hot fabric designers. And how about chalkboard cloth? What a brilliant invention! So yes, oilcloth is awesome but it can also be tricky to work with because it has it's own set of rules. What foot do I use? Can I iron it? All your oilcloth questions are answered in Kelly McCants new book Sewing with Oilcloth: 20 patterns that make sewing with oilcloth easy, fresh and fun. Kelly can also be found at Oilcloth Addict and Modern June. So you can pretty much say that Kelly wrote the book on oilcloth, literally and figuratively.

Read on to see more of Sewing with Oilcloth and learn how to win a copy. The winner will also receive a little bundle of oilcloth packed up by Kelly herself!
Get comfortable with the supplies needed to make oilcloth easy... and some tricks to go without the supplies!

Love these storage bins, I could use a few of these in every room of the house.

oilcloth bias tape! So easy, who knew?

And a "man project" that a man might actually use. Fantastic!

Love the detailed illustrations for each project.

To enter to win a copy of this lovely book to add to your sewing library, leave a comment here telling us if you have tried oilcloth/lam. cotton/chalkboard cloth. What did you make? What do you want to make? Or just tell Kelly she is awesome. Whatevs!

Oh, I love oilcloth! One of the first things I've ever sewn was with oilcloth! I've made various purses and tote bags but also a pillowcase:

I used to work at an old-timeyish general store that sold over 500 kinds of candy, displayed in big wooden barrels. I was the "candy lady," responsible for ordering, stocking, and taste testing! Right after the annual inventory of thousands of pounds of candy I had to replace the red and white checked oilcloth lining of every single barrel. It gave me a headache but I still love oilcloth.

I just recently discovered laminated cotton, didn't even know what oilcloth was either. I was trying to find a fabric to line my diaper changing table shelves with. I figured I'd buy fabric and then stick clear contact paper over it, little did I know there was already a solution. While browsing for the perfect fabric at Hancock, I found laminated cotton in an orange/teal damask! Perfect! It worked great and I had a medium sized scrap left so I made an art apron for my 4 yr old daughter. She loves it and it's wipeable!
