Cincinnati here we come!

And by "we" I mean my husband Rick, who doesn't stop the car. ever., three year old Clare, 14 month old Quinn and me, Jacinda...  for 962 miles. Each way. So the drive should be fun. But after that we have a day to explore before attending a family reunion and then turning around. SO, I'm making the most of that day. Here are my thoughts...

Start off the day at Findlay Market to sample the local goods. I'm all over The Goetta Danish. My husband is a Goetta purist so he is a bit offended by the liberties taken here but I'm all over adding buttery pastry, apricot jam and cream cheese to fried meat product. I just gained a pound typing that.

From there it's over to the Contemporary Arts Center to see the Shepard Fairey exhibit and to take Clare to Family Saturday: Street Art They say: Join local artists from ABLE Projects as they demonstrate how to make your own street art inspired prints. Sounds fun, right?

Unfortunately, that means we will miss the Snoopy appearance at the Blue Manatee Children's Bookstore and de-Café which could not seem cooler. Snoopy, you ask? Clare has an Aunt who loves Snoopy, so Snoopy is #1 in our book too. Maybe we can swing in for look anyway.

And lastly, I'd love to stop by one shop. It's just one! It's MICA. Doesn't it look great? Have you been? Is it awesome?

And then we're off to the Ball Game!

Natives of Cincinnati, am I on the right track? Please leave a comment and let me know what's up!

It's a few years old, but I pulled most of my itinerary from the Design•Sponge Cincinnati Design Guide

And stole the Shepard Fairey Mural photo from Jessica at A Little Gray. Tho whole "OBEY" just seemed too perfect for 30 hours of driving with 2 toddlers.

my husband and I had our first apartment just down the street from MICA - it's small but great! and it's across the street from www.margotmadisonstationery.com/ which is a really sweet stationary shop.
have fun!!!

Sounds like a crazy trip, but I love to hear of people having fun in my town. While you're down there, check out Park+Vine...very cool eco-friendly store. http://www.parkandvine.com/ I also highly recommend eating at a Dewey's Pizza (many locations including Newport on the Levee near the aquarium). The kids can watch them make pizzas, and they're the best pies in town. Good luck!

Your line-up is perfect. I didn't know snoopy was coming to blue manatee- Hendrix and I might have to stop in, we live just around the corner from there. And I definitely second the Dewey's Pizza. There is one right down the street from Blue Manatee in fact. Also right next to there is the city's best ice cream- Aglamesis Bros. (yes, I like it better than Graeters, though it's a tough decision.) and then there is a cute kid's boutique next door you would love called the Spotted Goose.

My neck of the woods here too ;) Sounds like you have it under control, I third Dewey's pizza for what it's worth, and if you have an hour to spare do definitely check out the Newport Aquarium at Newport on the Levee... http://www.newportaquarium.com/

Have a safe and fun trip!!

Oh man! I just saw this in my blogger feed and got so excited. I am from Cincinnati but I currently live in Hawaii- I know... but I still miss my home! I'm feeling so home sick. I'm jealous. Miss those reds games. Sounds like a blast. Have fun!

If you're into bargains, then you should go to the Gap Clearance Center in Cincinnati. It's not a regular outlet (Gap outlets actually have a line of clothes made especially for them). The clearance center is where their actual clearance stuff goes when it doesn't sell. (I know this because my husband worked for them for 9 years). We live in Columbus, but we went down last summer especially for the clearance center!

You are on the right track (Cincinnati resident here).

Findlay Market is great in the AM. Then to the Contemporary Arts Center or Union Terminal for the Children's Museum (great hands on fun for the kids and adults).

BUT DO NOT MISS BLUE MANATEE! Even if you don't get to see Snoopy. It is the greatest little bookstore. My kids are there once a week at least. And the decafe next door has snacks and coffee for moms and littles. And with Spotted Goose, a cute little second hand furniture shop, Aglamesis ice cream and chocolates and Dewey's Pizza all within a block you are set for an afternoon of fun.

Then you can enjoy the game and some Skyline Chili (if you really want to have the full Cincinnati experience).

Check out Union Terminal, home of the Cincinnati Museum Center. I've not been to the museum, but the architecture of the terminal is simply amazing. Even just a drive past or a stop in the lobby is totally worth it!

great day planned. I second the Gap Clearance Outlet too! I make special trips just to go there - unbelievably cheap and great finds. and you can hardly go to cincy without getting some skyline.

2 of my kids are about your kids' ages, and one thing I'd have to advise is to make sure the kids have plenty of down time. At least that's how mine like to have it. When we go out of town and overschedule, it's pretty much a guarantee of a meltdown or two. My kids NEED to have their unstructured kid-time, no matter where we are.

Hope you all have a wonderful time!

So excited you are coming to Cincy!! Totally on the right track with Findlay Market and yes please don't miss the Blue Manatee. Dewey's is A MUST! My personal lunch fave is Melt in Northside. Gourmet, organic and just plain yum. They recently opened a great little market too called Picnic and Pantry. The Kids Museum will make your little ones happier than all the popsicles and chocolate in the world. Not kidding. Have a great trip!

so snoopy was a bust!! he didn't even show up... so you can feel better about not going out of your way. Somebody is a rude gus, that's all.

Jessica! I can't believe Snoopy didn't show! What a dirty dog. We ended up doing unexpected family stuff today so I went over about 2:30 and asked how it went. They seemed really embarrassed. We had alot of fun walking around tho. I'll give the full scoop when I'm not typing on my phone in a hotel room in the dark. I would have liked to meet you, even more than snoopy! Sorry we missed seeing you and Hendrix there.

While you're at the CAC be sure to make a quick visit to the Weston Art Gallery (in the Aronoff Center), which is practically across the street. It's small (easy to visit with kids)and has a GREAT exhibition called the "House in my Head."

I got so excited when I saw this! Cincinnati Pride! There is a Shepard Fairey mural right around the corner from my house. I think you have to have Dewey's and Graeter's. Make it happen. Black Raspberry Chip. YUM! Have fun in this fabulous city. I don't know if anyone mentioned, but I would go to Northside. Maybe Melt (organic with vegan options) and Fabricate (local handmade- very prudent baby) and lastly- if you plan on stopping by Blue Manatee/ King Arthur's court you should go to Indigenous. It's in Oakley, also on Madison.

Have fun and post pictures of your trip :) I'm excited to see about your Cincinnati adventure. If you need help let us know.

Oh... and if you didn't know Cincinnati has one of the best zoos in the country. (but if it's too hot you may try the museum center or the beach waterpark)
