GIVEAWAY: Small Stash Sewing by Melissa Averinos
We are back with another fabulous giveaway! This time it's a copy of Small Stash Sewing by Melissa Averinos. If you know Melissa, you know you want this book and if you don't know Melissa, visit her blog yummygoods.com to learn more about her life as a "fabric designer, author, shopgirl, painter, Cape Codder, good listener and lover of pie." She's funny, right?
Sigh, now I can't stop thinking about Cape Cod. Have you ever been?... some of my favorite Summer memories. What is your favorite Summer vacation spot? Why don't you tell us for a chance to win Melissa's book. And if you're feeling chatty, tell us your favorite Summer vacation memory. The funnier the better, but it can just be sweet or boring or whatever. You will still be entered to win. Unless your favorite Summer vacation spot is Dallas because you are wrong, it is sooo freaking hot here right now. Just kidding, you are still entered to win if you love to Summer in Dallas (and if you use "Summer" as a verb.) As you think back on a good vaca story to tell us, here are a few of the gorgeous projects you can make from Small Stash Sewing!
{hello from Jacinda's toes}
This Giveaway will end on Sunday, June 27th, 2010 at Midnight CT and a winner will be chosen at random.

i like to summer in palm springs only not in the summer. in the actual summer i'll take mexico! mexico city or oaxaca. now send me that book.
There is nothing more beautiful than Lake Michigan in the summer. Northern Michigan is green and gorgeous!
That book looks awesome! My favorite summer vacation was to southern Spain. I wish I could go back pretty much every day.
Summer in Denver!
low humidity and plenty to keep you outdoors :)
The book looks great! My favorite place to be in the summer is at the beach. A sandy ocean beach!
Andrea @ TheTrainToCrazy.com
thetraintocrazy at gmail.com
Waterton, Alberta! It's always been my husband's favorite place to visit his family cabin... and after the very first time he took me there, it became mine :)
Funny you mention Cape Cod! I am an East Coaster transplanted to Portland, OR. We are flying out in a few weeks to join my parents at their vacation place at the Cape, which we do almost very year! They are great memories since my 2 kids don't get much time with their grandparents normally, so that means there's lots of sitting back and relaxing with a cocktail for myself. :)
My favorite summers were the ones I spent in college as a counselor at summer camp for 7-12 year olds. What a blast!
I love to spend the summer at my in-laws in Maine! They have an amazing garden, lots of space - everything you need to really relax.
My favorite memory of all times is my husband holding our daughter (who was born at home) for the first time. She was staring at us all the time, and we didn't what to touch first: her little fingers, tiny hairy ears or little tooshie :)
I love anywhere but Phoenix in the summer. It gets so hot here, it makes doing anything outside near impossible! BUT this darling book would make long summer days indoors much more bearable!

my favorite summer vacation spot would have to be san francisco.
I totally want to make those shoelaces!
Our favorite summer vacation spot growing up was Island Park, Idaho. Just north of Rexburg and not far from West Yellowstone, Wyoming. My favorite memory was when I was 6 and my grandpa said he would give me $1 if I got up on waterskis. I swallowed alot of lake water that day, but eventually got up and skied all around the lake!
Amen to Nancy's Denver Summers! Nothing beats the fresh breeze off a mountain lake.
We are spend our weekends in the summer being laid back and lazy at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO. It's about a 3 hour drive from Kansas City and is super relaxing.
My favorite summer memories are from big family reunions on a lake in Vermont. After roasting hot dogs and S'mores over a fire and "surfing" on inner tubes in the lake, my cousins and I would catch fireflies and tell ghost stories.
It was just a perfect part of childhood. I'm taking my own daughter for the first time this summer!

my favorite summer vacations are to duluth, minnesota. we have contests to see who can keep their hand in the icy lake water the longest.
I love Quebec City in the summer. So much to see, to do, and many patios to visit :)
Thanks for the great giveaway!
There is nothing like summer camping in Ontario with a bunch of teenagers during a hail storm...talk about a blast!!
My favorite summer vacation spot is anywhere but home. (I need to get out more) I imagine if I had been on a cruise to Alaska that would be my favorite. You want a funny story eh. Well I remember when I was around 5ish going on a road trip with my dad and two of my siblings. We stopped at a rest stop to use the potty. The potties in that rest stop were the biggest I had ever seen. I was terrified I was going to fall in. I didn't trust my sister to help me and I refused to go into the boys bathroom (their icky) so my dad could help me so my poor dad had to wait wait for the women to vacate the womens restroom and come in and help hold me on top so I wouldn't fall in. What a good dad.
I miss summertime where i grew up in CT, right on the water. Now i dno't live close enough to the beach!
I spent my summers growing up in Puerto Rico and Culebra- long days of snorkeling, building crab castles in the sand, and hiking in the rainforest! Wish I could still spend every summer there...
Summers spent on the beaches of California are the best!
I don't have a favorite summer vacation spot, but I am looking forward to spending some much-needed relaxation time in the North Carolina mountains next weekend!
I love boating and camping in Utah, particularly at Flaming Gorge.
I love the San Juan Islands! My family is headed to Cape Cod early August, I'm so excited to check it out.
Best vacation spot is Dillon's Beach, on the northern California coast. Huge sand dunes and endless soft, sandy beach for wandering.
We have a new tradition of a day getaway in St. Joseph, MI - just a 2 hour drive from Chicago! It was delightful last week, though driving home through 80 mph winds will be one of the summer memories I try to repress. This book looks fabulous!
I grew up in Indiana, and one year, my family decided to spend our summer vacation at the beach in North Carolina instead of at a campground. I think I was a newly minted teenager, which probably prompted the change. I LOVED it. And we went back almost every summer. I loved the small quaint towns, the little shops, the white beaches, clear water and big waves. We made a big sandcastle every year, and always chased the ghost crabs. In 2002, when I was in college, my mother called me very upset because my father had gotten a job transfer... to the coast of North Carolina. Now, whenever I go "home" to visit my family, I'm going on vacation too. We're going back next month for two weeks (we live in Austin now- and strategically planned this to get out of the heat). I can't wait!
every summer of my childhood, we vacationed in nags head, north carolina. i remember long afternoons wading in the sound, collecting seashells with my mom, flying kites on kill devil hills, and napping in the hammock on the back porch. we took our daughter here for her first summer vacation, as well... hope to go back again soon.
My favorite is the river! Living in NorCal is HOT! Being in the Yuba is great!
we go to Gatlinburg every year with my mom's side of the family- grandparents, Aunts, Uncles... everyone. No particular favorite memory (though the year we went white water rafting was quite fun). We all joke about how we have to eat turkey sandwiches every day for 2 meals while we're there....
my favorite vacation as a kid was summers spent camping by the lake with my family and another family - we had so many adventures together.
as an adult, my favorite vacation was my honeymoon to mexico. we went on this hike that was supposed to take us to a beautiful waterfall...45 minutes later we came to a muddy river that was sort of flowing downhill...yep, that was the beautiful waterfall. we took our picture in front of it, and I'll never forget how hard we laughed.
I like to be in natural places - the woods or the beach.
We grew up spending out summers in the mountains outside of Raleigh and one of my earliest memories is of teaching my youngest cousin to wash her clothes in the creek. We would sit her in a milk crate (so she wouldn't wash away) and she would dip clothes into the water and then "scrub" them with a rock and then dip again. Those summers were idyllic.
San Diego... Well, really anywhere at the beach in Southern California, but San Diego is special since my husband and I were married there. We went to the beach and Sea World the day before the wedding, and, true to form, I got a bad sunburn. And of course, the neckline of my wedding dress was lower than the sunburn. So there's a red ring around my neck in all the pictures...
I LOVE the Black Hills of South Dakota. My parents have a cabin there and some of my most vivid summer memories are of tubing down the creek that happens to go right through the backyard!
I love to SUMMER at Lake Tahoe. We spend every 4th of July there with wonderful friends.....the lake, the mountains, the friends and the family = a beautiful place!

As a kid we used to go away in a converted bus and camp in the Coromandel (New Zealand) with a few other families.
But my best ever holiday would have to be in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - I was an exchange student in Paraguay at the time and my host Mum took my friend and I with her to stay with friends there. It was both beautiful and shocking at the same time but a perfect experience and even now I find myself recommending people put Rio on their Bucket List!
We got married in Carlsbad, California three summers ago... beautiful!
I dont have one favorite summer location. We just travel where ever we can during the summer months but I realy enjoy San Diego!

If I only I could say that we "summer" somewhere. Just a visit to grandma's house is our vacation.

My favorite childhood vacation spot was Topsail Beach, NC. As a child I would spend hours and hours just walking the beach looking in the crushed shell wash-up for sharks teeth and sea glass. There's a little island you can take a boat to called Lee Island but we renamed it Shell Island because the whole interior of the island is a crater filled with huge shells that have washed up in big storms. the water around the island was shallow enough that you had to jump off of the boat into the water during high tide and walk through the water to the beach and couldn't be picked up until the tide came back in that evening. It was SO COOL!
Maybe next summer we'll be taking a road trip to Disneyland, which is what my family did when I was little. One year, we went with my mom's sister, her husband and 4 kids aged 2,4,6 and 8 (I was 9 and my brother was 13). They were visiting us from Hong Kong that summer. We piled into our Cadillac El Dorado (4 people in front, 6 people in back...no carseats in the 80s!). They wanted to stop at every fast food place we passed and being a good host, my dad stopped at every one. We ended up losing our hotel reservations because our usually 8 hour trip took 12 hours. We had to stay at the creepiest motel ever! The door didn't even lock and we didn't sleep a wink. But it was FUN, for the kids at least...now that I'm a parent I can imagine how worried our parents were!
My favorite vacation spot is wherever I am with my family ... the beach, the mountains, I'll take anything. And I'm dying to see this book!
My favorite place to "summer" is Up North in Michigan. I know Up North probably doesn't mean much to those not in Michigan, and even here the definition depends on who you ask. To me it is anywhere north of the Zilwaukee bridge. Some of my favorite cities are Peteosky, Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Traverse City. There are hundreds of little lake towns. Give me a cabin on a lake and I am a happy girl.
I like to vacation at home, we're a frugal family! A lazy week at home is fun for us, with maybe a road trip to Seattle here and there!
Favourite vacay was definitely summer on The Gold Coast, Australia, only, it was our winter. My second fave has to be anywhere in Ontario in summer, minus the bugs! Lovely book!
Well I "summer" in Phoenix, AZ cause I live here. My friend from Utah likens the heat to "walking into a blowdryer that is on the high heat setting"...but as kids my parents would take us to CA...EVERY year! And every time our car would break down on the way home...EVERY time! So where am I taking my daughter this summer now that I am a mom?....to CA of course! Disneyland to be exact...so hopefully our car won't break down...:)
Even though I've lived in Massachusetts just about my whole life, we always traveled north in the summer. My favorite spot was and still is Lake Winnipesaukee. We met so many great friends and spent hours (8-10) swimming, floating, boating (and partying, causing a ruckus once we reached those teen years). Good times!
My childhood summer vacation memories are largely from this small beach resort town 6 hours away from my grandparent's house. Our entire family, which would include my grandparents, my parents, my cousins, aunts and uncles, and sometimes our neighbours and their kids, would go there every summer since I was 2 until I was 14. I learned how to swim in the ocean and would always imagine that I was a mermaid whenever I was in the ocean, I loved it. We would build sand castles, dug tunnels, and we even dug trap holes (these are small holes, just big enough for you to fit one of your feet)in the sand and camouflage it using tree branches and wait behind trees and see if anyone would step into the hole (no one ever did) - we were naughty children... Our cottage also had a huge vegetable garden in the back, and my cousin and i would go with the other kids to pick out fresh veggies with the cook that would be used for dinner that night.
Can't settle down on one place. I love traveling and the best place would be a new place where i haven't been before, especially enjoying it with my husband or seeing it through the eyes of my daughter - makes every place a perfect place!

Love to rent cottages! My favorite summer memories from childhood are when my parents rented various cottages. It's a great way to relax and to see a new place!
My fave summer holiday was my honeymoon traveling from Saskatchewan to Dineyland! We camped all the way there and back to BC! It was so neat to see all the different lanscapes and mountains!
I would love this book! My favorite summer was the year my mother drove me, my 2 brothers and my cousin across the country from California to Michigan over a period of a month. Every morning we would look at the map and could pick what we wanted to stop and see that day.
Some of my favorite summer memories are times spent with my grandparents at their NC mountain house. My grandmother always had craft projects ready for us to work on - LOVED it! I even just took my husband and son up for their 1st summer mountain memories with the now great-grands! :)
my fave summer vacation was going to bonnaroo 2 years ago with my hubs. We woke up in our tent around 7:30 every day because it was just too hot to sleep any later, than proceeded to drink PBR from the cooler until 1-2 in the afternoon when the shows would start. That was the only time in my life it will be acceptable for me to drink that much in the mornings- pbr no less. Also the only time it wias acceptable to not shower for 4 days.
We enjoy St. George Island. So beautiful and relaxing! I hope I win this book!! Great giveaway!
iloveblogcontests@gmail.com
Thanks for the chance to win!
I have two favorites:
My childhood favorite--Lake Michigan, where we spent 2 weeks every summer at my great-aunt's cottage.
And my adult other favorite--Mount Desert Island, Maine, where we spend a week each May.
My favorite Summer Vacation spot is Hebgen Lake right near West Yellowstone. So beautiful. So serene. I love it!
I grew up on the Gulf Coast, so my fav vacation memories come from Gulf Shores and surrounding areas.
ashleyturner007@gmail.com
Summer in Arlington, TX!
Last summer I was very pregnant and loved floating around the pool reading to my baby girl! Great memories if only just for myself and the mumbling my baby heard!
We would spend a week or so vacationing in Jackson Hole WY growing up. We'd camp, run the river, tour Yellowstone and shop, of course. I still love it there and wish it was easier to get there so my kids could spend their summers enjoying nature and looking for bears in the park.
My favorite summer vacation spot would have to be Lake Tahoe! I live relatively close, but it never fails to take my breath away. So lovely and fun!
It's so sad that my brother lives all the way across the country near Cape Cod and I still haven't made it there to see him or the Cape. In the meantime, sewing projects keep me happy and grounded.
I LOVED going to the Oregon Coast every summer growing up. NOW I take my daughter there every summer---even when she was just a few months old. It is a great and happy family tradition. jessicaleeperkins@hotmail.com
My favorite summer memories all take place in Oklahoma because that's where my grandparents and cousins were. One of the funniest times was when one of us cousins got gum on the couch. My grandpa would NOT be happy about this so we tried everything to get it off. We used ice to no avail. In the end, we resorted (based on Grandma's recommendation) to scraping it off with a knife. I'm sure you can guess how that went. We flipped the couch cushion over and no one was the wiser. We'd go back year after year and laugh about the cushion and our many other shenanigans.
We have a house in Santa Cruz so I have to say that is our summer getaway!
I love going to the Oregon Coast. It always the right temperature in the summer, not too cold and never too hot. :-)
sunshinejencollins@yahoo.com
My favorite summer memory is giving birth naturally to my son last August, at home. ♥ The day after his birth, I sat on our back deck nursing as the early morning sun filtered through the trees, kissing his super-soft newborn cheeks. Hard to believe that was almost a year ago!
My favorite summer vacation is my backyard. Sipping on some lemonade and just relaxing with some friends!
My favorite have been spent at my parents beach house in Carpinteria, Ca, just south of Santa Barbara. and as for favorite summer memories, the best times were the sunset hide and go seek games played with all of the neighbor kids. we had the whole beach to ourselves.
There is nothing better then a small lake in northern Idaho! Grandma and Grandpa built a cabin, back in the day, and it is THE BEST place to relax, grab some rays on an intertube! OOOOO I can almost place myself there now!
One of my favorite summer vacation locations, as well as one of my favorite summer vacation memories is Boston for the 4th of July. The weather and the city are beautiful, and the city is buzzing with energy and patriotism. You can't beat it!
We took the kids to LegoLand 4 years ago. Mom and Dad had just as much fun as the kids!
My favorite summer vacation spot is New Zealand! it has fabulous summer weather and the best icecream and lots of outdoor things to do. I love NZ. You should go there tomorrow.
My favorite summer spot is Florida, Disney specifically. When I was younger we would drive from Indiana to Disney every summer. I can't say I enjoyed the drive very much, but Disney was great! I just love to be around so much happiness!
My favorite place to vacation (where I grew up and spent my summers) is Lake Michigan in northwest Michigan. Love it! It's so beautiful!
I used to go camping and loved it. I was an only child and would always make great friends!
what a cute book! I would love to win! My favorite Summer vacation spot is the Sierra Nevada mountains, specifically Yosemite National Park :)
Essex area on the MA coast - boating, clamming, sunning, eating seafood on the front porch...
My favorite place to vaca in Summer is the Keys!! It's beautiful and sunny!! Nothing to do besides lay in the sun! AH! Clicking my heels together now wishing I were there! :)
My family and I have been making Hilton Head, SC our vacationing spot which is absolutely wonderful. However, I just went to San Diego (and the surrounding towns) this April and I think that is inching up to my #1 spot!
My favorite place to vacation is on the Hood Canal. So beautiful and peaceful :)
My favorite place to vacation is 1000 islands NY. We've been going there every 4th of July for the past 5 years and we have lots of memories there. It's also the place where hubby and I got engaged, married and now bringing our little one to for the first time next week! (hubby has been going before he was even born!)
the projects in the book look fun. thanks for hosting the giveaway.
i like vacationing in toronto, the summers are pretty hot but there is nice scenery. i love the food there.
I love Rathtrevor beach on Vancouver Island (BC, CANADA) We went there every summer growing up and it's so great for kids. Sandy beach with shallow water for miles, tide pools when the tide's out, nice roads for learning to ride a bike, and a great kids program. I love it there.
I loved coming to Monterey, Ca for the summers to visit my Aunt every year growing up. I love the cool mild climate. I loved it so much that I moved here a few years ago with my husband.
Orange Beach, AL is my favorite beach and summer vacation spot. I'm praying the oil doesn't affect it to the point that I can't share that vacation spot with my children.
Choosing a favorite place to "summer"... oh my! There are so many wonderful places to visit - Outer Banks, South Florida, Cape Cod, Bar Harbor, but I really do like to visit Dallas in the summer! Nothing like visiting friends and staying with our family on Cedar Creek Lake over the 4th of July weekend to watch fireworks, eat some bbq and float in the lake! Although I do agree sometimes it is TOO HOT! My first summer in Dallas back in 1993 the rearview mirror fell off my windshield because the glue melted! Now that's hot! :-) does that cute book have a cute sun hat in it?
My favorite summer vacation...every weekend at our community pool. spending time with friends and family and letting the kids swim until they drop.
Anywhere with water!
door county wi-love the lazy days all the great shops and ice cream at wilsons
Summers in Coeur d' Alene Idaho will always remain nostalgic memories for me. The pristine lake with old fashioned wooden boats going in and out of the marina. The lush green terrain, candy store, and fun shops. And the getways to the mountains to go fly fishing and huckleberry picking...ahhhh.
What a great book! :)
Love my own hometown - best beach on Lake MI!
So far I love Asheville, NC. It gets hot for sure, but there are plenty of rivers to tube down and forests to picnic in. Also, can't beat all the free music festivals! Lots of crafters and artists to fall in love with and be inspired by!
I love going to the beach! Also, this summer I get to go to Alberta, Canada for my brother's wedding!
p.s. I love Asheville too! as Courtney posted above.
My parents never really had enough money to take us on a "real" vacations to a beach house or a cruise. But what we did do, I'll cherish forever: Annual trips to Kennywood! If you've never been, it's one of America's finest traditional amusement parks! Believe me when I tell you, there's nothing better than Potato Patch French Fries and Cheese. MMMMMmmm!
I love our cabin complete with a sunroom perfect for crafts!
My favorite place to vacation (any time of the year) is my husband's boss's beach house. It's FABULOUS! We get to stay there free if we clean and change the sheets and we always do! We went on our honeymoon and have been back several times and it's my absolute favorite place!
I love to summer in Arizona. I know, that's kind of along the lines of summering in Dallas, but it's dry heat! Anyway, the funniest memory was when my best friend came along with my family and she saved me from a chicken. Not a live chicken. She and I decided to order room service instead of going to dinner with my mom and dad. I had the chicken, and she made me laugh while eating it, and it got lodged in my throat. I started turning blue and she apparently didn't know the Heimlich (sp?) maneuver, so she grabbed me by the feet, held me upside down and shook me until the chicken dislodged. Not funny at the time, but hysterical now! I would love to have this book, and the drawing is on my dad's birthday! I'm sure he wants me to win, you know, to celebrate his birthday and me not being killed by a chicken.
Your right summer in dallas right now is not so great! WAY to hot! I would say the beach maybe Hawaii.
Summer in Utah! Up in the mountains, 0 humidity, cool evenings...
My favorite summer vacation spot is on Martha's Vineyard. My parents have a house there and I've been going since I was a kid. Now I bring my own children and hope to share my memories with them.
I love hanging out at the beach with my family at one of the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota. That is, until the mosquitoes come out and try to eat us alive!
This book looks so awesome! Would help me get my huge stash of little bits of fabric under control!

We used to live overseas (in Turkey) and there was an amazing little island about an hour from us. It was called Bozcaada. There was snorkeling, an old castle to explore, great food, and beautiful beaches. I loved loved loved it! Wish that gorgeous spot was only an hour away now.... *sigh*
Thanks for the chance to enter!

I love camping in the summer. I love leaving the TV and the Phone and the computer and getting back to the basics. I hate the days of packing and the days of unpacking, but it is so relaxing hanging out in nature... it is always worth it. Can't wait until our first trip this year!
One of my favorite places was my grandparents' cottage up in the UP (upper peninsula of Michigan). We'd fish and paint rocks and swim and eat smores. It was basically awesome.
oh EASY. My favorite place to be in the summer is at my grandparents beach house in Bethany Beach, Delaware. I've been going there nearly every year since I was one. We spend days at the beach, eating light and fresh meals, and spend the nights playing board games and falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
I love going camping up in the mountains. Theres something about the smell of marshmallows toasting over a campfire that really makes me happy.

My favorite place to Holiday in the Summer is Lincoln City, OR. The beautiful beach, the lovely antique stores, the Taffy Shop and yummy clam chowder at Kylos Restaurant.
this book looks divine, my favourite summer memories would be in thailand in one of the islands there (any really) with great food and gorgeous beaches... definitely not here at the outback...summer day can reach to 45 degrees Celsius... we all hide.
my favourite summer is when i travelled to Egypt...with my husband and my son
it was really lovely memory
My favorite vacation spot as a kid was the Adirondack Mountains of NY -- no TV, no electricity, just swimming, fishing, card games and wandering in the woods for entertainment. I don't think I've had my favorite vacation yet as an adult, my kids are still little and we have lots of time to find a favorite spot. Thanks for the giveaway!
My favorite vacation spot...Martha's Vineyard. My husbands family has had a cottage there for years and years, he went there as a child, so had his mother and now our daughter is experiencing it, her first trip was at 6 months old. It is a very special place, I have never been anywhere like it and love going so much! Going to the beach everyday, marching around the bandstand on Sunday nights, sidewalk chalk and eating the best apple fritters ever!
This summer I am hoping to stop at Yummy Goods and Tumbleweeds Fabric shop on our way back home.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Our favorite summer get aways are in the mountains of Arizona. We head up to the rim and go camp in the forest for a week at a time. Love to see which of the animals we can capture with the camera. (deer, elk, wild turkey, squirls you get the idea) Love your book would love to have it.
We went to Cape Cod when I was little, and from what I remember it rained a lot! I think my favorite vacations now are ones that I take with my husband and kids. We love visiting my father in law in Rhode Island in the summer - the beach, clam cakes, sunshine, frozen lemonade. It's always the best!
My favorite summer vacation was to New Orleans with my husband.. Yes, it was hot. But, boy-oh-boy was the food, music, and culture amazing. Love that city more than my luggage. Indeed, love it so much I went back 2 years later same time of year; I can't wait to go back again.
By the way, love your blog!
NJ Shore is my favorite summer vacation spending the day at the beach and the evening watching the sun set at the bay
Camp. There's just something about being grubby and covered in mosquito bites and having that crinkley sunburned feeling on your nose and sand and dirt in your sleeping bag that can't be beat. Sunscreen and Deep Woods Off just smell like summer camp.
Cape May, New Jersey. So Idyllic & charming!
Love spending time on Gabriola Island. Or something as simple as poking around in my garden.
Going to Hershey Park! I am just learning to sew. this book would give me some great ideas!
my family has an annual reunion at lake okoboji Iowa over the 4th. we aren't going to make it this year, but it's so much fun!
Hmmm...one summer in Texas I passed out at the top of the slide at Schlitterbahn!
kasamz@hotmail.com
Even though I grew up next to the beaches, I would have to say that my favorite summer vacation spot was called Dinkey Creek up in the Rockies. When I was little, my family owned a cabin and we would go up there, swim in the creek and get ice cream at the little shop on the campgrounds. They would also play disney movies at night on a huge screen for all the families to watch. Such good memories!
lkjohnson_27@hotmail.com
We love South Texas! My man went to college in Kingsville, TX and has a lot of friends down there. It is close to Padre Island, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, and Mexico. There are so many things to do and it is a new adventure every year...Plus they only have about 3 weeks of winter, so the weather is almost always SUNNY!
As a kid I used to love to go to Wisconsin Dells. It's the "Waterpark Capital of the World." We'd rent a condo for a week, go to the waterparks, play boardgames as a family, and simply hang out. It is definitely my favorite summer vaca spot!
Living in Houston (Tomball) it is hotter than Hades, so to get away we like to head up to Inks Lake in Marble Falls, tubing in Gruene or spending time on the lake. I try to avoid Galveston and Freeport because I am not a beach person, but give me the lake and I am in love.
My family has spent a week every summer in Sun Valley, Idaho for the last 25 years. We spend the time biking, hiking, swimming, and just spending time together. All three generations look forward to that week every year!
Loved our honeymoon in Mexico...but really anywhere warm, with beaches and water works for me :)
This book looks so fun! I love to vacation in my old hometown of San Luis Obispo, California! It has a lot of charm, fun shops, great food, and you can enjoy the day wine tasting or at the beach.
I would love spend my summers at the many lovely beaches in San Clemente. So much fun!
When I was a kid, my family would rent a houseboat on Lake Mead. FOr one week we swam, fished, played gin rummy, sang and danced on the roof, and lived without TV, phone, and video games. I can't wait for my 6 month old (and her future sibling) to be old enough to take houseboating!
I'm a cabin on the lake kid of girl. I don't have a favorite spot yet though - we've been so busy we haven't been able to vacation much!
I don't think I could pick a favorite vacation spot..and we don't really have one we've gone back to time and again as of yet...but my fondest vacation memory was of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We took our 2 year old on vacation with Googy and Mimi (my husband's parents) and had spent a week there. I was miserable, cranky and sleep the whole time. On our last morning there I took a pregnancy test and found out we were expecting #2! :) It will always be the best vacation we've ever taken...and that is topping Disneyworld!! Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
I love summering in Maine. My parents have a home right on the ocean. The weather is unpredictable, just like me. I really would like to have the book.
I love going to the beach in the summer. It get's hot here in AZ and any break we can get is awesome!
Nothing says summer to me like a week at The Lake with the Aunties! We do nothing and that is how we like it best! Floating on the lake in a floatie or a kayak with a good book; playing cards; making s'mores; all 20 of us crowding in the little 2 bedroom cabin when it rains; challenging the older kids to a swim across the lake; playing with the little kids near the dock; all the kids playing together (and giving us moms a break)... Only 2 and a half weeks to wait for this year's trip!!!!!!
My favorite summer spot is a Lake in Colorado...think it's Lake Valecita. We went there as kids. Another more recent summer spot is the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Lawton, OK. There are longhorn, buffalo, elk, prairie dogs, turkeys, and deer. The deer come right in your campground to eat and watch you. It's great.
i haven't been on a vacation in forever. but i really enjoyed anna maria island, florida. absolutely beautiful.
the best place in the world in the summer is at my family cottage, sitting on the dock and watching the little kids fling themselves off the end of the dock into the water with wild abandon (and lifejackets on) there is nothing better!
My favorite memory is going away to sleep over camp!
For me, I think it is a tie between Paris, Zermatt, and the Cinque Terre, all beautiful for different reasons!
I would love that book! I've got lots of fat quarters hanging around.
I would love to win that book! My favorite vacation spot is just about any beach w/ a nice breeze and view of turquoise water...
Fave vacay memory: fam vacation in Seattle- we go every year! Stay on the water, so rejuvenating!
Summer in Maine!!! Then you can shop, swim, frolic - whatever. And it isn't crazy hot, either. That's my fave vaca spot.
Not to be cheesy, but my favorite summer vacation was my honeymoon, 5 years ago this July. We went to Italy, Turkey and Prague. And it beat the heck out of summering in Houston as I am this year!
I live in Devon in the South West of England- we have lovely beaches not far from home- the perfect stay-cation! Love the book! Hope I win!
One of my favorite places is San Diego. It's a quick getaway for us and it works well with the kids.
My favorite summer vacation was when I was in college and I did a 3 week long archaeological field school on San Nicholas Island, CA. I made new friends, got really dirty, and met my future husband. It was the most beautiful place, for more than one reason.
Cool book!
My favorite summer vacation was a road trip my family took when I was about 7. We drove cross-country, from TN to WA to visit my uncle, aunt and cousins. The entire trip was 3 weeks and included camping in Yellowstone, snowball fights on Mt. Rainer in the middle of summer, and wading in Lake Michigan. Awesome memories!
one of my favorite summer vacations was traveling around Europe with my husband just before we started our family. especially coastal Croatia, Italy, and France! I would LOVE this book, as I have lots of fabric scraps to use.
My favorite summer vacation memory is actually of staying home, reading all day, and taking walks on the wooded path near our house. I was 15, and had no responsibilities... it was bliss!
My favorite summer vacation spot is strolling through Central Park with my husband and son. It was so lovely...a little piece of nature in the middle of a huge city! Such an experience!
We're from MS and my favorite vacation spot is the beach - love the smell, relaxation, sun, snowcones, sea food...
I can't think of any funny memories but my husband has a great one - when he was little, his family was driving to Disney World in FL and their car broke down on the highway, about 8 hours away from home and still several hours from Disney World. Now this was way before cell phones, but 2 families from our church just happened to drive by them and stop to help! James, his 2 sisters, and his parents piled up with our friends and headed to Disney World! Nothing can stop a Disney World trip!!
My favourite spot is Toronto Islands - so close to the city but a whole different world (and seemingly era) away!
Our favorite summer vacation spot is New York, and not the city. My parents live out that way. We went to Darien Lake this summer while we were out that way and my step dad took the kids around for a fantastic day of fun rides and he won them some carnival prizes while my Hubby and I got to have a little time to ourselves to ride all the crazy rides we can get on. Then we all met up for our meals and when the day was starting to finish we got to watch our 4 yr old riding a mini roller coaster, throwing her arms in the air and screaming. There weren't many kids there so they let her go on it for about a 1/2 hour. Then the rain came and we went back home. This last vacation was especially special because my husband just started med school, so we barely get to see him.
My favorite vacation destination is Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands--my husband and I honeymooned there six summers ago and it was heavenly!! My favorite vacation memory was when I flew up to Boston to visit my twin sister three summers ago. I stepped off the plane and we boarded the subway...we know each other insanely well so I knew I couldn't hide my news, but I didn't want her to guess first, so I said, "um, I'm pregnant!" to which she replied, "no way! I am too!" That was the start of a fabulous vacation together, dreaming about the little cousins in future years, wandering around the little towns of Martha's Vineyard and in and out of quaint Cambridge and old Boston shops and restaurants. We had a wonderful time together and I will always look back on that vacation with a smile!
I love to spend some summer days in Penticton, BC, Canada! They have a channel that runs through the city and you can rent inner tubes and relax as you float through town, beer in hand. They also are on the banks of a beautiful and warm lake (Skaha Lake) to swim in!

Love your blog, by the way!!

London Ontario. Tons of fun stuff to do (with & without the kids), not far (2.5hrs by car from us), yet still seems distant with the border crossing, money exchange, more chip flavors and our apparently very noticeable American accents.
Ooooh what a lovely giveaway! I use to live in MASS but never went to cape cod but close to it in Marshfield, & Plymouth (my family lives there & I was born in Weymouth) I should be visting this summer! I'm a floridian...it is a vacation spot. I'd like to go somewhere a bit cooler though. The heat here is overwhelming.
those shoelaces look amazing! i've loved fancy-schmancy shoelaces since i was a kid.
My favorite place to "summer" has always been up north Michigan. Right on the lake. Either Huron or Michigan. Simply can't be beat. When it's too hot in lower Michigan, the farther north you go, the better it is. Warm breezes, clear water, and soft sand. :) A little piece of heaven on earth.
I would love to see Cape Cod.. The coolest place I've ever been on vacation during the summer was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was seriously hot, but oh so neat!
my favorite summer vacation memories are of camping at white lake state park in nh. that summer we did a road trip in the south in a car without air conditioning is another story...
Since it is unbelievably hot right now in Austin, TX, I think summering in Iceland would be awesome. And I must win this book because I HAVE to make those shoelaces!
We just got back from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and it is my new favorite place (even in the summer). Gorgeous areas with the most beautiful flowers surrounded by desert. Such amazing contrast.
I come from a big family so we never really never went any wear. But I have fond memories of playing in the sprinkler with my sister.
One of my favorite summer vacation spots has to be Alki Beach in Seattle, where my parents live!
Best summers are spent in the mountains! Hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, and just loving the outdoors.
I love either camping or staying in a cottage in Tofino on Vancouver Island BC, Canada. The surfing there is amazing and it's just full of west coast beauty! We are lucky we are close and can get there a few times a year.
I would love to take my girls back to the old family cottage at Sandy Lake near Peterborough Ontario, Canada. They would have so much fun, just like my brother and cousins and I did as kids.
Favorite vacation? Yellowstone Natl Park, middle of the summer, six months pregnant, camping in a tent, hot during the day, freezing at night!
The beach, anywhere!
Living in Hawaii is like being in a summer paradise all year long! I love it! But I think I'd like to spend a summer in the country ... no beaches, no tourists ... just out in the clean air, strolling down tree-covered streets!
We love to summer on Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada. The most beautiful beaches. Lovely really.
We love Pensacola Beach, FL. Although I'm not sure how beautiful it will be this year due to the oil. :(
I remember Summer days paddling in the crystal clear rivers of Devon in England. I would collect lots of sticks to throw from the rickety wooden bridge and play Winnie The Pooh sticks and see how quickly it took to appear the other side!
We just moved to Nantucket and I keep thinking that we may never need to go on a summer vacation again...because we live in one!
However, we did honeymoon on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands and I never had a more relaxing amazing and uncrowded beach vacation than that. Heaven.
I love vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It's beautiful, and hopefully will not be destroyed by the oil spill. :(
I just found your blog through Design Sponge. It's lovely and I'll definitely be coming back! I just learned how to sew so have to comment - growing up, my family never took summer vacations (so sad!) but I never knew better. I loved riding to the park w/my friends and stopping by 7 Eleven for slurpees. Ugh, the brain freezes! p.s. I'm in the last homestretch of my pregnancy (32 weeks!) and I think having an apple fritter every day sounds like a very good idea right now...
My family's favorite summer vacation spot is actually in Ireland! We took the three kids and I was pregnant with #4 at the time to Ireland in 2007 and had a wonderful time visiting family, seeing the lovely countryside and just hanging out. The kids got to see the farm animals up close and saw a different summer than heading out to the shore as most everyone else does here during the summer.
Thanks for the giveaway! Our fav summer spot was in New Zealand, called Glenorchy, where part of the Lord of the Rings movie was shot. We went horse riding and stayed in a farm and had a fabulous time!
I wish I could go on vacation this summer! Baby #3 is due tomorrow and my husband will be using up all his vacation time to stay at home to help with my twin little men...anywho, my favorite vacation spot is Lake Powell...houseboating with family--mom/dad/siblings/cousins/aunts/uncles/grandparents. OH! I wish I were there!
We are a crafting/performing family and do a lot of traveling. One summer my husband, 3 daughters and I traveled from North Carolina to Standing Buffalo (indian reservation) in Saskatchuwan, Canada for a show and to visit friends and family. Well, I made sure we took a pic of every state sign we passed and stop at every free attraction available right off the highway. Although we were having a grand ole time, our car was feeling otherwise.
With only an eighth of a tank of gas and traveling through rural North Dakota, we knew we needed gas as soon as possible. Spotting a gas station from the highway, we took the next exit. My husband put it in park, we all unbuckled...then our car became POSSESSED. The automatic locks began to lock and unlock rapidly on their own. We all tried to open our doors but the car wouldn't have it. My husband cranked the car back up but it was no use. Our girls were crying, my husband was furious and I sat quietly thinking of a plan. "Got it!" I thought.
I quieted the girls and gently rubbed my husband's arm to calm him. With the car silent except for the sounds of locking and unlocking, I began to count softly...
"one" clunk,clack
"two" clunk,clack
"THHRREEEE!!" clunk,.....
Timed just right, door swung open, I freed us from the grasp of the fed up Mercury. Mommy was the hero that day.
In the end, it turned out to be a faulty fuse but that will be a story we will look back on and laugh when we're old and gray. :)
My very favorite vacation ever was when we flew out west then did a little drive around. I jumped off a really high cliff into a pond and bruised my arms to heck. Then, went hiking, and my dad (who is allergic to bees) got stung, and so did my brother and I, so we went to the ER. My face swelled up huge from the stings. Despite looking like a circus freak, it really was super fun.
Believe it or not, I've never really gone on a summer vacation! I think it would be wonderful to go to a secluded cabin by a lake(a swim-in-able one) in the mountains.
I loved and vacation that found me near the ocean.

I've never been to Cape Cod, but I spent many summers of my youth at a friend's beach house. This summer especially (it's 20 years since I was last there), I find myself longing to go back. Unfortunately, I'm too far away. :-(
Ahhh...I love the Oregon Coast. I grew up in Portland and loved going to the coast during the summer. I remember digging in the sand and playing in the water all day, and sleeping really, really well at night! :)

I'd love to go back to England for the summer. We had a great 6 weeks there a couple summers ago. It is really nice in the summer.

I love summer weekends at Indian Lake in upstate New York. Quiet days spent on the screened in porch reading while listening to the water lapping onto the little rocky beach from the lake.
My funniest is also illegal, so I am hoping since it happened over 25 years ago the Feds won't show up at our door.
We rented a house on Sanibel Island and on the flight down my 14 year old step brother took the life jacket from under his seat on the plane.
Our house had a pool in the backyard and he went to the bottom of the deep end, pulled both cords and came out of the pool like a rocket. He was scared to death and we laughed our heads off.
Please don't try this at home--someone might need that life jacket!!
My favorite place to summer is Cape May, NJ.
My favorite summer memory is of a second date, to a Dave Matthews concert, with a boyfriend who became my husband : )
My favorite vacation spot is anywhere other than where I am now. To get away for an hour, a day, a week...I will take anything!
Favourite vacation spot would be Algonquin Park, Ontario, sitting by a lake watching my 3 kids digging in the sand. Actually anywhere where there's sand to keep them occupied, a comfy seat to sit in, and a good book to read.
