Giveaway: Handmade Beginnings by Anna Maria Horner
A few weeks ago I shared some of my favorite Crafty Books. You may have noticed I have two copies of Anna Maria Horner's lovely book Handmade Beginnings: 24 Sewing Projects to Welcome Baby. Well, I figured I don't need two, so I thought I'd give one away to a Prudent Mama who would use it and love it.
Check out our interview with Anna Maria, in which our readers asked her questions and she gave us the scoop on how she gets it all done, and some great advice for sewing and crafting. Also check out some of the beautiful projects in this book...
Wouldn't any of these projects be so lovely in any of her fabrics, especially her new collection Lou Lou Thi? So, to enter to win your own copy of Handmade Beginnings, just leave a comment on this post telling us your own handmade beginning - the first sewing project you ever did. If I can remember that far back, I think my first sewing project ever was a stuffed dog! I wish i knew where that thing was, maybe I'll find it stuffed in a closet at my mom's house.
Leave your comment anytime between now and midnight PST next Tuesday July 26th. We will randomly select a winner and announce here on Prudent Baby. For extra entries, tweet, stumble, or share the giveaway on facebook, and leave a comment each time letting us know. Come back every day for new entries. Good Luck!

I made a stuffed Winnie-the-Pooh head in summer camp. Kind of cute, yet kind of creepy!
I first sewed a pair of pants for my teddy bear (with grandma's help). =)
my first project was sewing an easy dress for my daughter (with LOTS of help from my mom). Now 2 years later I helped my sister learn to sew by making the same dress for her daughter.
I made a little pillow shaped like a cat. I believe I even embroidered whiskers and everything :-). Thanks for the giveaway!!!
My very first sewing project was a skirt for myself, made in Girl Scouts. The first major project I tackled was a dress (sewn from a pattern) for my American Girl doll at about age 11.
Is this giveaway still going? I would love so advice on making some cute things for babies!
I don't remember my first sewing project, but I know I made a terrible pair of plaid, seersucker shorts when I was about 12.
I made a pocked for a pair of cammo pants. Mom had made the pants, but left out the pocket because the pedal on her machine died. Determined, I hand-cracked the wheel to make the pocket, so she could attach it.
I think it was a flat teddy bear....
I think it was a nightshirt!
My first sewing project was a pillowcase when I was 8. And what was my last sewing project? A pillowcase for my niece. I guess the oldies are still the goodies. LOL
I think I made some of those pillows stuffed with rice that you can heat up in the microwave, except I made them super tiny. I was probably about 7.
My first sewing project was a bib! It wasn't pretty.
I remember so clearly what my first sewing project was! I made a pair of culottes out of a knit fabric with horizontal stripes and a mustard and brown palate. It sounds so awful now but I was so proud that I matched the stripes well.
My first sewing project was a skirt I made in junior high home ec class. I wish I could remember my teacher's name -- she didn't teach me anything per se, but she was a very memorable woman.
My mom sent me to the local Y to take sewing classes when I was a really little girl. My first project (that I remember) was a clothespin holder that was hanging off of a metal clothes hanger. It was royal blue and red fabrics. My mom might still have it :) I LOVE Anna Marie, BTW!! Hope I win!
My first sewing project was a drawstring backpack I made in 7th grade!

I tweeted this!
I sewed w/ my mom when I was a little girl and made a rockin' nautical dress for the local 4-H fashion show...too cute! Since I've started sewing again as an adult, my first thing to make was a burp cloth for a friend's baby shower :)
Omg I would LOVE that book! I'm pregnant with my first child after years of trying and that book would be amazing. <3
The first sewing project I did was a sock monkey for my nephews birthday. It didn't turn out perfect but my sister LOVED it and I liked how it turned out. =)
I made a tote bag in 7th grade home ec. It was rockin'
i haven't started my first sewing project yet, but boy am i going to be quite the optimist with my first project - homemade all-in-one cloth diapers for my baby. i just found out i'm pregnant, and can't wait to make everything for him/her!!! :]
I would really love this. I am new to sewing and have fallen in love with all the neifty items that you post on here.
The first sewing item that I did was make a blanket for my daughter. It didnt turn out that great, but my daughter really loved it!!
I made my niece a sweat suit out of knit. It went okay for a nine year old :)
I would love this book! I'm 5 months pregnant this summer and can use some more dresses!!
Hair scrunchies! I'm a child of the 80s. :) My first sewing project as an adult was a dress for myself, that was in our luggage when it was stolen so I never got the chance to wear it. :(
Mine was a little jean jacket for my stuffed bear... Mom wasn't too happy because I had a little sister that my jeans were suppose to go to when they no longer fit.
My first sewing project was when I was 8, with my mom's help, it was a new summer outfit. I'm now almost 40 and I love sewing out of beautful books and I love Anna Maria's fabrics, they're fabulout!
My first sewing project that got completed was a baby blanket. Nothing fancy - one yard of batting sandwiched between coordinating yards of fabric then straight line quilting.
I think I made a skirt. That was a LONG time ago.
ecisley(at)comcast(dot)net
My mom wanted to teach us kids (6 of us!) how to sew and I remember making boxer shorts.....only she didn't watch me cut out the pattern and my smiley faces were all upside down!
Just shared on Facebook, trying to do it on my Twiter bt it's not working
my very first sewing project was, of course, making oodles of pillows! i got very into them. i'm 7 months pregnant right now, and would love to have that book, because it. looks. awesome!
Ooh this would be such an awesome book for me right now. I have two grandchildren on the way; one in about a month and another in Feb.
My first project ever made was a dress in high school home ec class. I made a dress, wonky zipper and all for my Mom. I'm still amazed she ever wore that thing. I can honestly say it was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen. LOL BUT she wore it proudly to make me feel good.
i've also shared the giveaway on facebook.
Love this book - I definitely want to make the hooded jacket!
My first project was in home-ec, a cut out patterned stuffed scarecrow pillow.
Just tweeted it!!!
My first sewing project was just a few months ago - a tiny pair of brown knit pants for my little girl! <3 She was too small for the newborn ones I already had.
I tweeted this giveaway on @gmunsey
My first ever sewing project was a pillow. I was in 8th grade. Man that was a while ago.
Wow, had to think back to the early 60's... The first things I made (hand sewn) were doll clothes. Remember Twiggy, minis and Mod design?
The first thing made on a sewing machine were flannel pj bottom (I was a Missionite) for children in Africa (hm, wonder why the flannel?)
I remember this! I was probably 4 or 5. I tried to make clothing for my Snoopy.
Just finished dragon tails for my grand daughter and her friend. the tut was on Tatertots and jello. I first sewed a dress when I was 11.
My first sewing project was an A-line skirt & matching vest when I was in High school! It actually turned out pretty good. Thanks for a chance to win this book.
twelve30{at}gmail{dot}com
I believe my first sewing project was a locker organizer made in my high school home ec class...followed by pillows in the shape of letters. We all made our initials! Thanks for giving us a chance at your 2nd copy!
I remember sewing for my Barbies when I was in kindergarten, using scraps of fabric and a sewing needle... I had no idea about patterns or ease so I'd just trace the dolls and the pants always came out too small.
My first sewing project was a matching vest-skirt set, and the vest was reversible! I had an instructor, believe me it wasn't just me!
I made a little quilt with my mom, doll-sized. I just found it recently. It's totally something my mom would have picked out (fabric wise).
The first thing I can remember making was a very small pillow as a gift for my mom. I had one of those little looms and spent hours weaving a heart shape on to a rectangular piece. Then I put a backing on it and filled it. I must have been 7 or 8 tops. My mom still has that silly little thing; I'm now 32.
I made a pillowcase for my body pillow when I was about 13. I found 2 yards of flannel and thought it would make a nice cover. I didn't cut the fabric at all before sewing, so it ended up being about 18 inches too long, but for some reason that didn't bother me. I used that pillowcase for years.
First thing I ever made was a tote bag--and that was only a couple of years ago!
Wow, it's hard to remember back that far! But I think my first sewing project was a dress for my Cabbage Patch doll. That kind of makes me feel old. LOL
First thing I ever made was an a pin cushion for my grandmother. I remember making it in Junior High--I think it was probably a Home Ed class where we learned to sew, cook, and other things like that. I loved it but I don't think my mom actually had that many pins to put in her new pin cushion.
I've never sewn anything before, but I want to start. And I'm expecting my first in january, so this is perfect!
Not sure if the giveaway is still on--end date says July 26th--but I wanted to comment anyway! :)
My Barbies were the best dressed girls in the house! I made all of their clothes...and that evolved into making my own and now my daughter's. I happen to have 2 dear friends who are currently expecting--the book would be put to great use!
My first sewing project was a pair of pajama pants. My grandma took all four granddaughters to the store to pick out fabric for them, I chose plaid and she made me match up all the lines. To this day I'm still anal about matching lines.
My first sewing project was a quiet book for my little boy. Crazy thing to do for my first project I know, but it was so fun, and it turned out so cute!
When I was a kid, my mom, sister and I would hand sew barbie clothes! But my first sewing machine project a pillow case with Bugs Bunny on it!!
My mom had me sewing a bunch when I was little - I'm pretty sure the first project was a tank and short set, but we used to make sewn ornaments for our friends for Christmas too... I'd LOVE this book - I'm 6 months preggers now, and am so excited to be able to make adorable little clothes for my baby girl next summer!!!!
My first projects were making handsewn hankies, complete with embroidery, while visiting my grandparents farm in the summers as a child. I checked this book out from the library but wasn't able to really delve into the projects during my brief time with it. I'd love to have my own copy!!
Facebooked!!
Ah, my first sewing project was a table runner for Christmas time. Ehem...it was not a prize winner. :) I love sewing now though especially for my little girl and my second baby on the way!
briana.m.murphy@gmail.com
i made a pillow in home ec class- i am sure i would not be pleased with it now! then i took a break until high school, when i converted a pair of jeans into a long skirt. i was so proud.
I got a toy sewing machine from santa when i was 7 and used to make clothes for my dolls! Now I love to make childrens clothing, bibs and quilts for the little ones in my life..would LOVE some new inspiration :)
I would LOVE this book. Adorable stuff.
The first thing I made was a bright red skirt that my college roommate helped me with. Thanks for the giveaway!
I am pretty sure the first thing that I sewed was a flannel pajama set in 8th grade home ec.
ooooh I would love to have this book! I am pretty sure my first project was a pair of pajamas, my mom helped me and we used an old sheet with a pretty vintage flower pattern.
first thing i made was a baby hat and that's the only thing I've made :-) just started last week!
My first sewing project was.... sewing stars onto a hoodie for my boyfriend 6 years ago. Now he's my husband, so I guess he loved my skills! I would love to win this book. I'm expecting my first baby in March next year and I'd love to make anything I can!
also posted on facebook!
I think my first sewing project was curtains.
My first sewing project ever was a pillow. A lumpy, crooked little pillow.
This is easy for me! My first sewing project was about 8 weeks ago and it was a tote bag.
A pillow for home ec - my mom had to help me with the pom-pom edging - a bit too much for a beginning sewer. I kept that pillow until it fell apart - -
This book looks like just what I need now that I'm moving into my grandma years
A felt and yarn sewing project with a big plastic needle. It felt like a big accomplishment for a 6-7 yr old!
This book looks like it is full of lovely projects
I sewed a tiny pillow and flannel blanket for the washcloth mattress in my dollhouse (age 11). Now 4 months into my first pregnancy, and 8 months into my first sewing machine, I've been trying easy burp cloths and pacifier clips. Thank you!
A dress that went horribly awry! Still loved sewing though!
My first sewing project was when I was in Home Economics and we all made a pair of pajama pants!
My first project was a simple blue and white-striped blanket - the same fabric on both sides! I still use it because it's so soft. The fun part of the memory is that my dad took me to buy my fabric and taught me how to sew :) Go dad!
my first project was christmas stockings… 2 years ago :) I'm kind of new to this lol

First sewing project... I think helping my mom make a doll quilt for myself.
steeplechaser29 (at) yahoo (dot) com
My first sewing projects(that I can remember) were little shapes of plastic canvas that my Gramma used to keep me quiet when I was 4 or 5.But the first thing I ever made on a machine was a pillow shaped like a sheep in middle school home ec.
my fist project ever was a pillowcase, at school, i think was about 9 :)
My first first was sewing buttons on scraps of cloth. My Mum had a "button box" filled with all kinds of treasures, and I loved picking my favourites to sew on. I collect vintage and new buttons now myself, in a cigar box (though I'm about to outgrow it!), due to those fabulous memories!
my first sewing project was a cheerleading skirt. I did not turn out. My mom stepped in and started teaching me after that fail. : )
my first project-baby blanket
anna_k67 at yahoo dot com
My first ever sewing project was this bitty baby dress. My sewing teacher (yes, I had one in an all girls Catholic school) gave us the pattern. My mom and I invested in some gauzy cotton and then I made a dress with lots of help from my mom. It turned out cute enough to gift to my neighbour's wife who had a bitty baby to fill in the dress.
First ever sewing project? Handsewn Barbie clothes my granny helped me make. I still have them :)
I tweeted this post :)
I like this post on fb!:)
My first sewing project was a dress for 7th grade Home Economics. It was WAY too ambitious and turned out horrible.
The first thing I remember sewing was doll clothes when I was a little girl. Well, I actually didn't make 'clothes' I took pieces of old clothes to make barbie clothes which I actually sewed onto the doll, like they didn't come off without cutting them off...wow, I have come a long way.. lol
My first sewing project… I was 6 or 7 and I tried to hand sew the ripped armpit seam in my nightgown. Lol. But my first real sewing machine project was a skirt I sewed for myself in high school. Both projects were rather sloppy … and I still have the skirt.
Would love to win the book!!!!
-Sabrina
My first sewing project was a pair of pajama boxer shorts for my Girl Scouts sewing badge. They didn't fit.
I just cast my mind right back, beyond the dolls house clothes and soft furnishings, beyond the simple 'embroidery' on holed cloth in my first class at school... and found a very old memory of sewing a piece of felt. Sewing it up so that it turned into a big ball of felt, laced with uneven criss-crossings of thread. I honestly think this must have been the first thing I ever sewed. I was probably about four!
First project was a little clutch-- this excited me so I made a clutch for everyone in my book club-- poor ladies
The first thing I remember sewing was a scrunchie!
I think it was a poorly crafted pin cushion!
I remember making hair scrunchies and cullottes at school and wearing them all the time! NEVER AGAIN!! ;) Still sewing though xx
The first thing I ever sewed was a small doll quilt, very basic, but my nieces still use it today.
My first project was a four-square quilt pillow for my mother when i was in 4th grade. It was actually pretty good! It still sits on her bedside table, 25 years later! Now to win one of these great books before baby #4 comes in a few months....
My first ever project was a reversible fleece skirt down to my ankles! My Grammy helped me make it and we had a great weekend together. It was blue and orange, and I still have these ridiculous pictures of me posing in it with a Superman t-shirt. Seriously though, down to my ankles? And fleece?
My very first sewing project was elastic waist band shorts made in a black and white Elvis print that we made in Girl Scouts!
I tweeted the giveaway!! @amberinparadise
My first sewing project was a pillow cover we were required to make in exploratory home ec. in the 7th grade! I'm pretty sure I still have it stashed away somewhere.
PS - Did I mention this book would be wonderful as we're expecting our 3 "new beginning" in October!
Even though I didn't want to increase my competition... I shared this on Facebook!
The first EVER? Probably a pillow, under the guidance of my mom.
I tweeted! I'm vt_ellen
the first thing i ever made...or rather started making was a pair of yoga pants
I made a pretty awesome yellow apron in 7th grade home ec!
My first sewing project was a pillowcase and blanket for my Cabbage Patch Doll. With lots of help from my Granny!
I would love to win this book...I'm seven months pregnant with my first baby!
I made crib sheets for my baby's room
My first project was a pair of pants my mom made me make...I think I wore them once!
a quilt (with my mom) for my american girl doll :)
I made a pencil pouch in Home Ec in 7th grade. Shortly after, I made a small duffle bag that my dad still uses for daily gym trips.
My first sewing project was rather ambitious, looking back.
My friend and I raided her mothers sewing bin for offcuts and then sewed them together patchwork styles so that we each had a panel. Then, for some reason, we cut up an emergency survival blanket (you know, the tin foil type ones!) and made them into a sort of tube, with the patchwork panel at the front. Patchwork, metallic skirts! We thought we were pretty special, until we tried to sit down and they fell apart. Hhaha.
The first thing I tried to sew was "Barbie clothes" when I was 12 and let me tell you that did not go well. I ended up sewing my finger and had to go to the hospital. Now, the first thing i sewed successfully was a plastic grocery bag organizer from a hand towel using Martha Stewart's tutorial a couple of months back. :)
I've been dying to get my hands on this book. I think my very first sewing project was a doll dress that I made alongside my mom. My girls still use it for their dolls.
My first project was a pair of pajama pants in 7th grade FACS, many projects later I am a FACS teacher and get to teach kids how to do all kinds of things! I have wanted this book for so long and we are planning #2 to hopefully make his/her appearance in the late spring!
Looks like a great book! Love looking at these books before my first baby this winter! :)
I would LOVE this book! I've been dreaming about it for a long time.
cowilcox(at)gmail(dot)com
I think my first handmade project was a paper piece quilted pillow that my mom showed me how to make. I would love this book. I'm currently 40 weeks pregnant and have lots of pregnant friends that I'm sure I could find many cute things to make for all of us!
I checked that book out from the library but had to return it before I got to use it! :(
My handmade beginning was a skirt I made for my daughter when she was first born. It was out of a fat quarter so it was nice that it wasn't much fabric because it turned out pretty messy!
mmmm... :) the day of the giveaway's end is correct?... 26th July really? HMMM... In my city is August already.
My first sewing project was a table runner for my dining room! Since, I've made many things and am in love with my sewing machine!
My first sewing project was a summer dress I never finished because I got pregnant and scrapped the project.
My first little sewing adventure was with my grandmother when I was 12. I had a favorite blue jean jacket that I had worn plum out and my mom kept threatening to throw it away so I turned it into a purse! From then on, I was smitten by sewing.
And this book would be oh so perfect timing since I just got the two little lines on the preggers test I took!! ;) Do you think my mom will be mad I told PB before her? Hehehe.
My first sewing job I did was to make napkins. I like sewing straight lines. :-)
such a sweet book. My first sewing was a little doll quilt.. I made it with my mum who is a self taught quilter.
I remember taking a sewing class the summer I turned 8. One of my first projects was a basic tote bag, which I made as knitting bag for my aunt in San Francisco, who I worshipped because she would take me around the city and buy me macarons, stationary from Japantown, strings of paper lanterns from Chinatown, and clam chowder breadbowls eaten on the edge of pier 42. To a young girl from a small town in Idaho, this was the highlight of my life. Now I'm in grad school in the bay, and spend every Sunday with her and my little cousin, doing the same things. And knitting, which she taught me to do. I'm happy to report she still uses my tote, even if all the seams are crooked.
my first sewing project was in 8th grade sewing. i made pajama pants and failed miserably. my first successful thing i made was a t-shirt quilt from t-shirts he was going to throw away, but that he had drawn himself! i couldn't bear for him to get rid of those, but wanted to make something useful. thanks to the help of a good friend the project was a success! i am now making a quilt to welcome my first baby girl!
love the book! I started sewing small dolls and dresses for them.
I think my 1st sewing project ever was a bear I made with my mom when I was 8 maybe... It was a complicated pattern for me and mom ended up doing most of the work.
My first attempt was in home ec class and it was a pair of boxer shorts...they were not so hot, but I think I got a decent grade on them.
Posted this giveaway on FB
In school we made shorts for our first sewing project - I was never able to wear mine because I sewed the legs shut...................
My mother find sit hard to believe that I can actually make clothes that my 3 sons and my daughter to be can actually wear.
It was a fleece bathrobe with motorcycles on it. I was 19. I rocked that bathrobe like nobody's business.
My first sewing project was a little coin purse that was so poorly done that the coins fell out. I think I was about 10.
I must be tired - my eyes read that the contest ends on July 26th, but this blog entry was posted on 8/3. Well, I hope I'm not too late! My very first sewing project was a wrap-around sarong skirt - no zippers or buttons, easy peasy. Thanks for offering this giveaway!
My first sewing project was a windsock that I made in middle school. I don't remember much about it, come to think of it. It was one of those things that everyone had to make and I just did it because it was required. I like to think my real handmade beginning occurred this year when I made a stuffed owl for my baby. Since then I have fallen in love with sewing and making things.
My first sewing project was a pillow. I took a night class (with adults) at the local high school when I was in grade school and I was so proud of myself. I still have the picture of me standing next to my pillow. That was sewing by hand, my fist sewing machine project was actually only a few months ago and it was a blanket for my DD (Her favorite blanket b the way).
My first sewing project was a drawstring gym bag we made in school. I still remember the fabric we were required to use - brownish-red kettle cloth. Awful! If I made that bag again today, I would have a field day with colors and patterns! Hmm - maybe I will!
In my 7th grade sewing class I made some (super awesome) reversible shorts. I'm pretty sure they were black with neon squiggles on one side and neon pink on the other. Timeless.
My first sewing project was a pair of shorts that I made in high school. My husband still wears them now (to bed) almost 20 years later. I have just recently bought myself a sewing machine and I am loving teaching myself to sew again after all of these years!
I want this book! My first sewing project was a cute little red bib shaped like an apple...my daughter still likes to put it on and act like it is a necklace :)
My first sewing project was barbie clothes. We would cut up old socks and sew them into fashionable outfits as mom screamed about us breaking all her needles; now my mother buys me patterns to sew for my babies.
My first project was a queen size quilt. It was for my parents for christmas. I def. Bit off more than i can chew, i thought it would be easy sewing individual squares and i even added pictures! Chriistmas eve i was intears. And still needed 120 squares, instead of wrapping my kids christmas gifts i was crying over the sewing machine. I fiinally had it done and threw it in the washer (because instructions said to ) the washer completely took out all the pictures. Needless to say i gave them a crooked quilt with gray semi-visible pictures :/
Oh btw i hope i win this awesome book lol
My first sewing project was a dress for my daughter late last year. It felt incredible to make something. I think I made a dolls dress when I was younger but it's more than likely my mum did most of tge work for me. She loved to sew too.
My first was a pair of gaudy stars pj pants. The look like the American flag sans the stripes. I still wear them! Comfiest pj pants I own. They're... almost 10 years old! Wow. Might I add, sewing was fun and everything, but once I had a little one, it was filled with new purpose. I love enveloping him in my love.
A poodle skirt. It was for girl scouts and we had to make our own costume for the Father/Daughter 50s dance. My mom was an amazingly big help, and even though I was only 8, I will always remember that <3
I think my first sewing project was a beach bag at around 6 years old, pieced together from curtain fabric scraps.
Haha, my first sewing project was a stuffed dog, too. What a coincidence?!
OMG, how exciting! My LO is due at the end of the month, so I luv this post. :)
My first sewing project was a heart-shaped pillow that I made in Home Ec class in 8th grade. It was in a pink checkered fabric with white lace trim and a pocket in the front. I loved that thing - and fell in love with sewing...
My first sewing project was a bright yellow "bag," which I hand-stitched in Kindergarten! My mom still has that little pouch at her house ... with the rusty needle still in it! OMG! I should take it from her and get it framed!
Mine was a cushion in the shape of a green domino (don't ask!!!) The book looks amazing :) x
My first sewing project (a few months ago) was a dress for my little girl... with a lot of help from my mom :)
Drapes! What a disaster!
shannoncarman at yahoo dot com
I think it was more likely an embroidery project... Thank you!
my grandma and i used to make roll-up sleeping bags with a built-in pillow for my beanie babies! i still use that same sewing machine. it's a 1963 singer and originally belonged to my great-grandmother!
I was a new wife and desperately needed curtains for our tiny one-bedroom apartment. There were no blinds, so in order for any privacy, I had to do something! My mom, a former avid seamstress, pulled out her machine. She showed me multiple times how to thread the needle, thread the bobbin, and pin my seams. The curtains were sufficient. I didn't put them back up when we moved. But I am thankful for the use we got out of them. More importantly, I'm thankful for the time spent with my momma.
A block, lap quilt that my mom, an avid sewer, helped me make when I was about 12.
My first sewing project was a stuffed dinosaur in the 2nd grade!
I am a new mom so this book would be perfect!
When I was little my mom taught me to sew buttons, so I sewed those a LOT. A little while after that I think I sewed up a gingerbread man for middle school home economics class. :)
My first sewin project was some clothing for my favourite bear when I was about 9 years old. He is still wearing his costume!
This book has been already some time on my wishlist.
natalieghys(at)hotmail(dot)com
I can't quite remember but I think it was a dress for my doll when I was little.
my first project was the pillowcase dress from PB for my baby girl!
The first project I ever made was matching neon green boat neck shirts for me and my sister. I was 9. My mom helped me make matching elastic waist neon green pants. My sister and I were (and are) unstoppable :)
I sew a reversible tote :)
I follow the tutorial from the blog and I am very proud of the result :)
Tweeted the great news here :- https://twitter.com/hueisei/status/99107336345497600
The first sewing project I remember doing was a baby quilt for a friend. I did the top and my mom helped me with the actual quilting part1
It was here! From this site! My very first sewed-it-all-by-myself project was the sleepmat. That was only last September. Since then I have sewed an unbelievable amount of things (well if you had told me last year I wouldn't have believed it!). Thanks you guys for being my inspiration.
i think my first sewing projects were plaid pajama pants and a scrunchy! that's going back a long time though . . .
my first sewing project was a bag for my snowmobile helmet. I was probably 11 years old, and my mom made me use plaid, so I could learn how to match it.
My first memory of sewing is sitting with my Grandmother and making little decorative pillows for family members. She was an expert seamstress, knitter, and quilter. Today, she still inspires me to sew for my soon expected baby girl!
My first project - like real project - was making myself a cape. It was awesome and I still have it (somewhere). Grey wool + turquoise lining. Love it.
I'm sure, before that, I helped my grandmother out by sewing buttons or something as she made all kinds of stuff when I was little - like a barbie dress to match my crazy Southern belle looking nightlight.
The first thing I sewed was a pair of shorts. I wore them for bed for years.
Shorts in Jr. High when I had slender, tan legs. . .
The first thing I made for my baby was a quilt with the help of my mother in law. It was tons of work but I love how it turned out. I don't's the point in that!
I've seen this book on another blog before and think I definitely need to have it. So many adorable things to sew for baby and mama.
I first made a green flannel rag quilt for my baby.
fb share
My first project was an apron which I still have to this day - good memories.
My first project was a doll for my baby sister. My mom actually did most of it since i was little, but I remember trying to help with pinning!
My first sewing project was a pillow. My mom and I sewed it on her old Kenmore, and then stuffed it.
My first sewing project was a skirt. With lots of help from my mom! :)
I loved making doll dresses with my mom!
I'm so confused! This giveaway was posted Aug. 3rd, but it says to comment between now and July 26th? Is it still open?
My first sewing project was to make burp cloths from a cloth diaper with ribbon sewn on the bottom...and not too long after that I had worked my way up to knot dresses!
liz at mommysaidsew.com
The first thing I ever sewed was a scrunchy! Way back in the late 80's-early 90'a. I think in total I probably had somewhere around 50 scrunchies that I made for myself and friends. I would love to win this giveaway as I just (as in 2 days ago) found out that I'm pregnant with our second child. This book sure could come in handy!
My first sewing project was a pair of really ugly pajama bottoms! It taught me to read a pattern and sew :)
I liked this post on FB.
I just recently started sewing about a year ago and this is one of the very first books I borrowed from my friend who is teaching me. I have had me eye on it ever since. It would be so awesome if I won :)
Yikes I don't remember what that was. I used to love helping my grandmother sew. I was always in charge of threading the needle (since she could never see). I remember that we had to make something in home ec class, but don't remember what that was. Then, years later... I'd say my first real experience sewing was making a quilt for my now 4 year old.
I think the first project I ever sewed (hard to remember for sure, but it definitely wasn't in my youth!) was an apron for my mom. Fabric was way too stiff and my gathers were horrendous and didn't even think about using same coloured thread to hide the crooked top stitching. This was about 4.5 years ago. I love AMH's book...so lovely!
Heather
My very first sewing project was a denim purse that I made in middle school. I had always wanted to sew but nobody ever taught me (my mom didn't know how), so I took it upon myself to cut up a pair of old jeans and hand-stitch them into a little purse. The front pocket was the front, the back pocket was the back, and I made the waistband into a shoulder strap. I was so proud of that purse!!
This book looks amazing, I'm expecting my second little one in December and I'd love to use some of these projects!
http://bfab11.blogspot.com/
hmmmm... i honestly cannot remember for the life of me! but this book would be perfect... i am 7 months pregnant, and obviously have pregnancy brain!!! i do remember learning in sewing in middle school how to sew a straight line by using loose leaf paper and no thread. and then, by the end of that class, i made the dress i wore to the seventh grade dance! she must have been one heck of a teacher!
thanks for the chance to win!
I didn't learn to sew until well into my 20s, the first thing I made was a pillow for my couch with rope cording trim around the edge - took forever!
My first sewing project was a hair scrunchy. Eighties kid, right here!
P.S. I think you may have put the giveaway ending date wrong. It says July 26th, but you posted this on August 3rd.
The first sewing project that I remember was a red shirt that my mom helped me to make to wear to summer camp. I have a picture of it...somewhere.
