Giveaway: Handmade Beginnings by Anna Maria Horner
A few weeks ago I shared some of my favorite Crafty Books. You may have noticed I have two copies of Anna Maria Horner's lovely book Handmade Beginnings: 24 Sewing Projects to Welcome Baby. Well, I figured I don't need two, so I thought I'd give one away to a Prudent Mama who would use it and love it.
Check out our interview with Anna Maria, in which our readers asked her questions and she gave us the scoop on how she gets it all done, and some great advice for sewing and crafting. Also check out some of the beautiful projects in this book...
Wouldn't any of these projects be so lovely in any of her fabrics, especially her new collection Lou Lou Thi? So, to enter to win your own copy of Handmade Beginnings, just leave a comment on this post telling us your own handmade beginning - the first sewing project you ever did. If I can remember that far back, I think my first sewing project ever was a stuffed dog! I wish i knew where that thing was, maybe I'll find it stuffed in a closet at my mom's house.
Leave your comment anytime between now and midnight PST next Tuesday July 26th. We will randomly select a winner and announce here on Prudent Baby. For extra entries, tweet, stumble, or share the giveaway on facebook, and leave a comment each time letting us know. Come back every day for new entries. Good Luck!

The first thing I ever sewed was a skirt or maybe it was some doll clothes or maybe a pillow. Sheesh...that was a while ago :)
My very fist sewing project was a cloth diaper for my daughter. I remember it took me forever where as now it takes me about 30 minutes. :)
First Project was a tight tube for a Barbie Dress at age 8 or 9...
First, first was an apron in home ec class. First project as an adult was a jumper made from a pair of thrifted pants. I've been wanting this book ever since you originally posted about it!
I made an A-line skirt in 8th grade - I think it was my first and last zipper!
I would love to win this book! My first baby is due December 25th of this year and I'd love to sew him some special things from this book.
When I was a little girl, my mom sewed a LOT. My sister and I had a big bin of all of her scraps for us to make whatever we wanted out of them. The first project I can remember I made myself was a purple purse made from her scraps. I remember being totally disappointed in it, because at the time I hadn't figured out that 1" gaps between stitches weren't a good idea and I kept losing my pennies out the bottom. I was maybe 7 or 8 at the time. :)
First sewing project I ever made was just a week ago! I made an owl stuffed animal for my daughter using my grandmothers very first sewing machine. Since I'm a beginner, this would be perfect for me to test my new abilities!
I was homeschooled so my mom was our "Home Ec" teacher. She encouraged each of us to choose a pattern and fabric. I very foolishly chose a plaid (that you could barely tell front/back on) and pleats. I was very familiar with a seam ripper by the end of the project and didn't sew again for 10 years!
My first sewing project was your DIY Swaddle blanket. I used the hungry caterpillar fabric and gave the momma a copy of the book and butterfly toy to go with it.
My very 1st sewing project was while in 8th grade Home-EC class. We made wall hanging organization pockets. I wish we had made more. Probably my favorite class ever.
In high school I made some pajama pants, but my first project on my own machine was curtains, lots and lots of curtains.
Lots of people made scrunchies! I made a scrunchy and elastic waste shorts in Elvis fabric!
My first sewing project was pillow like stuffed Christmas ornaments. My grandpa & dad showed me how to do it... who learns from their hunting/fishing dad and grandpa.
My first sewing project (that I can remember) was a striped t-shirt. Didn't turn out very well, but I do remember wearing it.

My first project was making little dolls from scraps of fabric. They were fancy shiny dolls and I LOVED that I stitched them myself.
I made a simple pillowcase.. nothing fancy but I was pretty happy about it
