DIY No-Sew Fabric Scrap Concentration Game
This is a quick way to make something charming out of extra fabric bits. All you need are some pinking shears and fusible interfacing. There are so many variations and embellishments you could use to make something really special and sweet. Get the DIY after the jump...
1. First decide what shape you want your game pieces to be and make yourself a template out of some card stock (wouldn't it be nice if there were fabric craft punches?). I just did a three inch square to keep it simple, then I used the template to cut 20 matching pieces of double-sided fusible interfacing. This is a product that allows you to use your iron to fuse fabric to both sides and give it stiffness. I used heavy-duty but you can use a lighter one:
2. Next you want to cut out your fabric a little bigger then your squares, don't have to be methodical about it at this point. Cut 20 pieces of solid color fabric for the front so the kiddies can't tell which is which, and 2 pieces each of ten different patterns for the backs of your game pieces.
3. Then you'll want to make a little interfacing sandwich with your scraps, like so:
4. Iron your sandwiches together, making sure the interfacing is covered by fabric so you don't gunk up your iron:
5. Iron all 20 of your sandwiches together, and you'll have a pretty pile of patterns that will remind you of all the cute things you've made with them before. They will still be rough and mishapen around the edges:
6. Now you just take your pinking shears and cut around the interfacing to complete your game pieces. You can also stitch them with a contrasting thread for a cute look, but I'm tired and my husband actually made dinner so I wanted to stop. Also, in case you didn't know, the whole point of pinking shears is that they keep fabric from fraying (I used to think the zig zag cut was just decorative).
7. Play your game!
