Not a creepy Christmas sweater to be found!
Excellent detailed instructions and color diagrams make this book very approachable!
This book would make an excellent gift for the knitter in your life, if you catch my drift.
Wouldn't this be cute with different color yarn for the layers?
A cotton knit beach cover-up. LOVE!
So cute, right? Want to win it? Leave a comment here between now and Thursday, June 23rd at midnight. Tell us about a favorite knit item or "knitted" memory. Here's mine: For my senior picture in high school, my mom BEGGED me to wear a solid color sweater rather than the design-y, leather patched, Bill Cosby craziness I was prone to. I reluctantly agreed. Great advice mom! Too bad I wouldn't listed regarding "the bangs." So share something funny, something sweet regarding something knit.
Share this giveaway on Facebook, Stumble Upon or Twitter and leave an extra entry. Come back and enter every day if you REALLY want to get knitting!

I used to knit back in the day. I made a scarf and an uneven blanket, but lord help me I didn't drop any stitches!!
When I was a kid, my mom would trace our hands and feet every year, and we'd get knit slippers and mittens from grandma for Christmas soon after. We always got a lot of use out of them (better than a fuddy sweater!)
I like to make things that are more, well, wearable. I always knit for my kids, started when I was preggo with the first, and would LOVE to make some cute things for my son like that awesome vest!
I knit the basics, simple patterns for scarves and baby blankets. I would love to venture into different types of projects. I love making things for the kids too. Looks like a great book.
I taught myself to knit via you-tube when hubby was away for a week. My first project? A kid's hooded sweater. I'm a go-big-or-go-home kind of gal I suppose :-P. It came out really cute though, and she loved it!
Granted, I did get the "Honey, you're 23. And you just learned to knit. I leave for a week, and you become an old lady?" My response? "Well, if you don't like it... don't leave :-P"
the sweetest knitted item i ever received was this amazing cardigan and blanket from one of my husbands colleagues when my son was born - hardly expected it and it was the most gorgeous item ever!
On a different note, was just going through this book last night (from the library) and was telling my husband that I needed to but it
As my bag says:
1. Yes, I am knitting.
2. No, not crocheting.
3. No, it doesn't require a lot of patience.
4. Yes, you could do it. Really. Want to learn?
5. Yes, I know you can buy sweaters, socks, etc. for not much money. What's the fun in that?
6. Yes, I'm sure your grandmother did knit for you. That's nice.
7. Well, yes, it does require some concentration, depending on the pattern. So could you shut up and let me knit now? Thanks!
Hope I win that amazing book! Great patterns!
I would also like to win a bag like Katie's, if you could manage it? With the book in it. No yarn, though. I've plenty of that!
I taught myself to knit when my first child was about 10 months old because I decided he needed a SPECIAL stocking, a HANDMADE stocking, not a stupid store-bought everybody-has-one-just-like-it stocking, and since I didn't have a sewing machine I figured, of course I should knit one. Nevermind I didn't know how to knit and it was almost October already. So my first knitting project was a Christmas stocking on double-pointed needles. I've since knit stockings (and socks, and sweaters, and blankets, and hats, and mittens...) for all of us (I have three kids now) but that first, sort of wonky one is my favorite.
I do both knit and crochet. I love to knit baby hit and mitten sets for my family members having babies in cold weather. Each new life should have something made just for them. :-) I marked this in StumbleUpon. ~Jessica
I have a knitted scarf that is incredibly warm and soft! Thanks for the giveaway

Five years ago my mom and I took a knitting class right before I got married and moved states away. Ever since we've enjoyed working on projects, buying yarn and finding patterns, it makes the miles not seem so far. This year though was my favorite, she knitted the sweetest little baby coat for her first grandson, my baby boy born this past February. I will treasure that ity bity coat for always! I would love to win this to give to her! :)
I am fairly new to knitting and want to expand my knowledge. I am most proud of the knit stuff mouse toy I made (city mouse from lion brand). It was my first attempt with double pointed needles. My decreases aren't perfect but it looks mostly like the picture!
I'm a new knitter so I haven't made too many items. However, I'm also a new mom and would love to make these for my daughter.
I have fond memories of my mother knitting and crocheting all the time. If she wasn't keeping her hands busy her foot and legs had to be bouncing!

I'm teaching myself to knit, and I would love to win this! My favorite knit-related memory is actually from when I first started to knit. I was knitting little squares because I was trying the different stitches. My daughter, who was about 2 at the time, stole all my little squares and used them as blankets for her Little People. She loved them.
That book looks amazing, I want to knit everything I saw!
My favorite knitted item was a gift (they always are aren't they?) It is a sweater for my daughter made by a friend of my Mother-in-law. The sweater is cute and used all the time, but knowing that a woman I never met made this sweater just for my daughter makes it even more special.
When I first started knitting, I knit up this knit beanie that wasn't even close to fitting me (and I have a small head). My (then) 2 year old daughter got a hold of it and decided it was hers. It was a little too big for her, but she loved it. It was the beginning of her obsession with handmade things. She is only 3 and she loves EVERYTHING I make and is always asking me to make a dress for her!
I taught a friend to knit when she was mourning the death of her dog. It was so healing for her and she's turned out to be a much better knitter than me. I'm one proud teacher!
My best friend Amy (who I have never met in real life, but met through the handmade community) made my daughter the most beautiful knit hooded sweater. To call it just a knit hooded sweater doesn't do it justice. The hood is long and pointed and makes her look just like Little Red Riding Hood when it is on. the bottom is long and almost ruffled, like a skirt, and she hand dyed the yarn herself in beautiful variegations of red. For Halloween this year we took our inspiration from her beautiful sweater. My daughter went as Little Red Riding Hood, I went as the woodsman (complete with a beard, mustache and lumberman's jacket) and my husband dressed up as the wolf in granny's clothing. The photos are priceless. I would be happy to share. ;)
If I won I would send this book to my best friend. She deserves a nice treat and I would be so excited to see what beautiful items she creates from it. :)
Last winter, my 7 year-old daughter saw me knitting a pair of socks. And then she asked me to learn her knitting. On a knittingfair I baught her three balls of yarn, a set of wooden knitting-needles and a bag to store her knitting-gear.
From my friend she got a book about learning to knit for her birthday. From the book she learned to cast on. And she was so proud of it that the first week she casted on, pulled out, casted on, pulled out, casted on and so on.
Know she is able to knit stockinette even if sometimes when she ends her row counts more stitches than when she began.
i think my memory has to be one in the making right now. i've embarrassingly been working on a sweater for my husband for something like four years now. i honestly don't even know if either of us will even like it anymore at then of it all! when it is... finally... finished, though, i imagine it's already full of memories... the many plane rides it's been on, the first apartment we lived in together, the pregnant belly (twice!) it's laid on while i've worked on it... along with the ongoing joke of whether or not it will ever be completed :) here's to hoping it gets done before another four years pass!
would love to win this book... maybe smaller knits are more my speed :)
My Nana knitted us slippers that I loved. I made some of my own using the same pattern a few years back but they just weren't the same, I guess they needed her special touch. Now I just like to knit for my son and other babies in the family.
When my daughter was born, my coworkers knit up a beautiful patchwork blanket with which she still sleeps, two and a half years later.
My mom used to crochet and knit. I don't think she ever really finished anythng though. When we were going through her storage unit after she passed I found three boxes full of yarns and half started projects. Still have the yarn and plan to teach myself to knit while my husband is in boot camp this September! Would be nice to have a book with things other than scarves in it =p
I'm proud of EVERYTHING I knit, so much so I have a hard time giving things away, even when I made them specifically for another person. Selfish selfish knitter. But my absolute favorite things are probably the bears I knit for my son, my niece and my best friend's baby. I love knitting stuffed animals.
My favourite knitted item is a beautiful lace heirloom blanket I made for my sister in-law as a wedding present. I worked so hard on it and it took so many hours of knitting, but every stitch was a good wish for their marriage. They loved it, and so far it's still in great shape (the blanket, and the marriage)!
My favorite knit item is the hooded sweater I made for my baby!
When I was younger, maybe 10 or so, my grandmother taught me how to knit. Just a basic stitch I guess. Well, I tried to make my brother, who was 8, a hat for Christmas which ended up being a long skinny tube. I told him I made him a hand warmer instead.
I shared this on Twitter!
My favorite knit item is the tiny orange knit shrug I made for my girl when she was still small. She's wearing it here: http://www.thebeeandthebobbin.com/2009/11/17/giving-thanks/
Knitting a sweater on the beach with my mom and our exchange student. Between the three of us we got it done quick!
here's a sad memory: a friend was in hospice and wanted me to finish a sweater she had started for a new baby in our lives. she seemed so thankful when i assured her that i would, even though she could barely speak.
I knitted the sweetest little newborn baby romper for my new niece, only to have her grow out of it before I could even sew the buttons on! Oh well, I'll have it for the next go-around, I guess!
I knitted a small little hat for my nephew and it was the first hat I could actually do. I desperately want to get better and make new items.
I knit a hat for a little boy baby gift and had my first gauge incident ... the hat was man-sized. Cute but man-sized. I did, however, get fun pictures of my daughter wearing it: http://6dukes.blogspot.com/2009/04/knitting-disaster.html.
One of my favorite knitting quotes:
Knitting is like sex. If I like you and you appreciate it, it's free. Otherwise, you couldn't pay me enough.
Oh my gosh these are really cute! My husband's grandmother knits all kinds of stuff (luckily no sweaters), my favorite is the yearly stash of wash cloths we get every Christmas. I am not gifted in this area, but if I was to win this book I'd give it to my friend who has just started knitting and has made some really cute things so far. Maybe this would be a good hint for her to knit something for my family.
My sister knit me some socks that were sooo cute and the most comfortable socks I've ever worn. I was so sad when I finally wore a hole in them.
I taught myself to kint lst summer. My first big project was a Sampler Blanket. 36 squares of different stitch patterns. I finished the squares ages ago but the sewing them together is taking a lifetime. I keep promising myself that I'll finish it "as soon as {this} project is done. Ooops, just cast on for a pair of socks tonight. I finish the blanket soon - I promise!
Last Christmas I decided to knit slippers for everyone in my family -- never again! I don't know what made me so crazy!
I taught myself to knit from a book while recovering from an appendectomy at age 10! Lots of Barbie blankets!

I knit, but I knew more as a 12 year old than I do now as a 40 year old! I'll give it a shot though. Cool book. Heart the hoodie!
About 7 years ago, I decided to become a knitter and made a sweater for my almost 1 year old. Too bad I didn't realize or keep the ball bands for the yarn I was using. When I went to buy more, I ended up getting a different brand and shade, of dishcloth cotton. Heavy sweater, different blue sleeves - I never wove in the ends either... She did wear the sweater, though.
Shared on FB.
Oh, I also tried to make felted slippers that ended up looking like they'd fit Side Show Bob...
I have a cable knit sweater that my mother knit over forty years ago - such a wonderful way to remember her fantastic knitting skills.
One of my favorite things that I knit was a kidney - my uncle was a kidney donor to a complete stranger! So I made him a stuffed kidney to "replace" the one he gave away - he told me it was perfect as the doctors had told him he would want some sort of bean shaped pillow for after the surgery :)
I learned to knit last year and so far my favorite thing has been thee tiny tea leaves sweater I knitted for my niece. I was still very new to knitting and was amazed at how great knitted things look when you use good yarn and a great pattern. Haven't stopped knitting since. :)
My mum used to knit me jumpers and cardigans all the time when I was little and my favourite times were when she was nearly done making one and we went shopping to buy the buttons. She always let me pick the buttons and I remember my favourites being little white ones with pink roses on. We found the cardi with the rose buttons in a box when I was moving house (nearly 20 years after it was knitted) and we saved the buttons and put them on a cute scatter cushion we made for my new place. Now I knit all the time for my baby niece. At the moment she gets what I feel like making but I can't wait for the day she is big enough to go button shopping with me to pick out her fave buttons!
The last thing I tried to knit was a square. That was way back I guess 71? I don't think it came out as a square either. I'd love to win the book for my sister who loves to knit. Especially for the grand kids.
I started knitting recently while pregnant with my twins. I made it a goal to knit each person in my family a new hat every year, which is useful in Alaska. I was only successful for 2 years because my husband was recently transferred to Texas (out of the freezer and into the oven). I think I need to set a new knitting goal, maybe some knit armadillos. Love the Hermione Sun Top.
How I'd love to knit a hoodie for my daughter in a great rich green. Lovely book.
Thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite knitting memory was when I first learned to knit as a kid I only learned how to purl. It wasn't until my first child was born that I taught myself to knit. So everything up until then was all garter stitch.
I have some fingerless gloves that one of my besties knitted for me. Every time I wear them I think of her and how much her friendship means!
What a great book! I'd love to win.
My favorite knit item would have to be my socks. I only wear one sock to bed (aptly named "bed sock") so when I first started knitting I thought it was great that I could try lots of different patterns and didn't have to knit both of the pair! Now I have some cosy single bed socks that help keep one foot warm while leaving one foot free to stick out of the covers for some cool air if need be :)
When I was 15 I made my first knit - a pair of baby booties - had no idea what "guage" was and they would have fit my dad! lol thanks for the giveaway1
My favorite knit are some booties that I made for my twin boys last year. They are super tiny! We were really lucky to make it to 37 weeks, and those booties only fit on the boys for about two weeks after they were born. Every now and then I pull out the booties and tear up remembering how small and sweet my boys were. Ok, they are still sweet boys, but now they are loud, fast one year olds, too! (The little guys probably need a Charlie vest for fall.)
We have a knit sweater that is true 80s knitting craziness. It is an acrylic, intarsia replicate of a sweater my mom had growing up. My mom loved it so much that my nana knit her a copy of it for me. It's olive green with black and white sheep jumping over a fence. Because it was a zip-up acrylic cardigan, I wore it, my sister wore it, my brother wore it, my cousin Heather wore it, and her THREE BROTHERS wore it. The Christmas after my daughter turned one, I opened up a box from my aunt, and there was The Lamb Sweater. It's now been through my daughter and handed down to my nephew. To anyone outside the family, it maybe be a crazy sweater, but to us, it's The Lamb Sweater - guaranteed to make every mom in the family tear up.
(I plan to make a duplicate in wool with buttons for the next family baby.)
My grandmother used to knit baby blankets for all the great grandchildren and the great great grandchildren. Many years ago she had tried to teach me how to knit and I didn't do too bad, but she moved away and the companionship we shared faded away.....flashforward 21 years! While sitting with my grandmother during her recovery from a surgery I realized that we wouldn't have many more years left with her. I asked her to reteach me. I picked it up with gusto and spent time with her every 4-6 weeks (I lived on the opposite side of the state) for the last 2 yrs of her life. They will be some of the most precious memories I have of her. And I hope one day to pass the soothing, relaxing hobby onto my grandchildren!
My favorite thing to knit is little baby booties but my favorite "knitting" memory was a few years ago teaching my office mates to loom knit scarves. I was loom knitting a lot of scarves for Christmas gifts and they saw me work on it each day at lunch and a week later a lot of them went out and bought loom knit kits and I thought them to loom knit scarves and hats for their loved ones too.
I love to knit. I have four girls so you can imagine how much knitting they require. I go to a knit night every Monday and it keeps me from going insane. This book looks amazing! I would love to have it for my collection.
fingers crossed! I loved knitting special blankets for each baby while pregnant :) xoxo
This is just the inspiration that I need to keep me motivated in learning how to knit. I am a slow learner and now that it is summer I haven't felt the desire to keep trying, but summer knits who would have thought?!
Great stuff, thanks!
