Tutu-torial Part Two
Why is a tutu so expensive to purchase?? I mean seriously, this cost $3 to make. I finally got down to business and used Jacinda's tutu-torial to make one for Scarlet as a sort of petticoat for her requested Tinkerbell costume.
It is crazy simple - all you need to be able to do is sew a line. It doesn't even really need to be a straight line. So get yourself 4 yards of tulle and some elastic and get to sewing - what a great and simple halloween costume or christmas gift for all the little girlies in your life! Get the How to Make A Tutu-torial here.
And remember, leave a comment on this or any post this week and you could be one half-yard of oilcloth richer!

And here I thought I was the only one up this early. Yay for early risers!!
I would totally make a tutu... but I'm having a baby boy! :D and he is due to arrive in about 3 weeks!!! :D
Well I feel kinda like an idiot! I just sat here last night for several hours tying layers of tulle onto an elastic band when I could have just done this! Whoops!
Thats a really bright color of green. Is it really safety green... or is it just my computer?
My friend & I made one for her daughter last year, & I'm with you- I have no idea why people charge SO much for them! :) What a cute Tinkerbell skirt!
I was looking at the tutus at the store yesterday & was telling my sister-in-law "these look so easy to make & would be cheaper too" & low & behold! Just what i was looking for-thanks a bunch, I knew it was possible!
SOOOOOOOOOOO cute! Looks like I am going to look like a huge dork..... why you ask? Because I will be making one for myself because I do not have a little girl yet.... tee hee
who knew it was so easy?!?! i guess these tu-tus are far easier to make then petticoats? have you ever made one of those?
Awesome! I'll be making one of these for my little one for Halloween. Tutu wearing cats are much cuter! Please post a picture of the finished costume, can't wait to see what other great idea you come up with for Tinkerbell.
Also do you really need 4 yards of fabric for a 12 mo old?
awww this is soo adorable!!
btw, i blogged about prudent advice today! :D

The electric green is tu-tu adorable! (Groan, pun, undercaffeinated, etc.) Charlotte has 3 (THREE!) tutus already, but I feel the need to make some matching mama/daughter tutus. (Did I mention undercaffeinated?)
Thank you for giving me that much needed boost of inspiration! I'm stressed. My daughter is turning four and the party is this WEEKEND! I feel so under-prepared. But this helped. Do you ever feel as a crafty Mom the expectation for fabulous higher?

I thought the same thing! A year ago I bought a tutu that wasn't nearly as "tu-tu-riffic" for $12.99 and tax! I made this tutu (with the added ruffles like Jacinda) for less than three bucks! AND it looks a LOT better than the one I bought! I measure my sewing in nap time increments, and this is super fast- not even a whole nap time! Thanks for the tutorial.
When my 3 year old saw this post she said "oooh! What's that?" good thing Joann's is having a huge sale this week. :)
I love tutu's! This is great Jaime! I made a tutu for M.E. when she was only a month old. I had some scrap green and orange tulle from a gift basket I recieved and I used one of my old headbands as the elastic. Now that's getting crafty when you have no money!
The tuto for the tu-tu is too cute-oo.
My grandniece's costume this Halloween is
bat-erina. She will be wearing a tu-tu bottom similar to Jaime's (elastic and netting) and some type of bat getup for her top and head. At least that is what she told me today. As a 5year old girl she could change her mind! Thanks for the post. mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com
I love this tutu, Its very affordable too!
Love the color and Love your adorable idea's and site!
Is there any way I can convince my husband one of our 3 boys needs a tutu?
Is this the tutu from the tutorial without the extra ruffles or did you add more layers? Inquiring minds want to know. I'm making this for my daughter this weekend to accompany the Tinkerbell costume. I just couldn't fathom a $30.00 price tag when Joann's has everything on sale.
